work collections..
8 Answers
someone at my work is leaving(theyve been there a few years), and people are putting together a collection to get something for them. i myself have only been working there since mid feb. of this year, and work there only 16 hrs a week, i'm 17 and dont have all that much money and was wondering how much do you think would be enough to put in? most other people are putting in either 10 or 5. It annoys me a bit why people cant just put in a pound or 2 without seeming bad, because most of us there are all teenagers - or just have the management buy them something. i just wondering what your views were on work collections?

At the end of this term we had 5 people leave :o\
Just put in what you feel is enough there are no rules to collections at work - besides, no one should be checking how much you put in!!

At my work (office of just under 30) we put 1 in for birthdays and usually 5 for weddings, leaving and babies. Personally, I would just say if you can't afford to match the others as there's nothing worse for the collector discovering someone has filled your envelope with shrapnel - one guy at our place always ends up putting 62p in or something, which is just rude.
Until last year at work, it was always up to the admin staff to organise collections, but after one year of having to organise and decide what to buy for 5 birthdays all in July, I had a hissy fit and now I just email staff with whoever has a birthday coming up and let someone else organise it!
