New research shows that many hair colouring products contain dangerous levels of toxic chemicals which can cause skin inflammation and irritation, and treble the chances of developing bladder cancer. Last week a British woman died following a fatal allergic reaction to a Laboratoires Garnier product. The EU Scientific Committee for Cosmetic Products said that strict new guidelines for the industry would soon be in place, including clear labelling which emphasises the need for a patch test. It's also likely that they will bring in new concentration levels for many of the chemicals.
This is not the first time that hair dye has been thought to be harmful. In January of this year, another report suggested that using permanent hair dye can treble your chances of having bladder cancer, while hairdressers who come into daily contact with hair dye are five times more at risk.
