Views on Tattoos please?

Hello all,

Firstly I have NEVER been a fan of Tattoos and I KNOW they are permanent and all this. Trust me, I have preached enough to my sister about her one and told her it was stupid and all that..... but now..... I am kind of wanting to get one myself! But I want to get one that will do me for the rest of my life, something that will make sense until I am 80, and somewhere where its not always on show but can also be seen without having to reveal private body parts to show people! Also I want it someone I can see it as well.. not on my back for example!
I am just toying with the idea but I am tempted... I was thinking of getting my initials in pretty writing on the inside of my wrist... just something tiny! I know you are going to say 'but what if you get married and change your name'... but I am NEVER going to change my name... marriage or no marriage.... its my name.. and its my name for life! I don't see why a woman should have to sacrifice her name just coz she married someone! (Also I understand that I may change my mind about this one day but right now I feel pretty strong about the name thing)

Does anyone here have a tattoo they regret?

No,but a friend does.He went out and got his wife's name tattoed on his upper arm one day - got home to find out that she had served him with divorce papers!!

My husband had my name put on his arm when he was 18 and his mum went made ( she never was a fan of mine) and luckily we have been together a long long time. Personally I like to see little ones on a womans shoulder or on the lower part of the back. Don't like to see them on arms legs wrists etc, and not sure about having a name .

I have a tiny fairy on my shoulder blade- I wanted it there so that like you I could show it off without getting slapped with an indecency order or cover it up. I only had it it done a few months ago after wussing out for about 15 years! As of yet- I haven't regretted it.

I say go for it, something small, personal and discreet is lovely.

Hello again my turtle dove !
I have 3 tattoos I love, but I did have one on my wrist that I didnt like, on the inside of my wrist, a butterfly but I had it lasered because it was too obvious for jobs and stuff. Great tattoo but just not ideal for workin in banks etc. Cost me �240 to get it removed and you cant see it now- but in my opinion, as long as they are tasteful and what you really want, its your body decorate it how you like ! xxx

I have got tattoos that I regret.
At first I loved them, but they don't look like I pictured them. I have had both sleeves done from my shoulders to wrists. I thought that I would be able to hide them with long sleeve shirts, but you can still see them through my work shirts, and they don't end exactly at my wrists they are just onto my hands.

I now wish that I hadn't got both arms done, but it's too late now. When I walk down the street you can see people edging away just because they look excessive.

I urge you not to get them done, more so somewhere that is visible.

I don't have any myself but know/have known quite a few women who have them - all in 'hidden' places (and not just rude ones!) and none of them have regretted having them as they have been fairly 'innocent', ie. none have been of a partner's name or have been pics of embarrassing things etc.

I have always thought they looked bloody awful, but oddly, now i am 36 (and know my own mind - and am happy with what/who i have become) i want one REALLY badly!

I have decided i want a 3-word phrase (i can't say what because walls have ears... er... or... screens have eyes) on the outside of my wrist - kind of where a watch would normally go.

I honestly believe that if anyone wants to do anything to their own body then they should.

Life is too short to worry about what one MIGHT feel in 50 years' time.

Sorry for the mini hijack there slippers, i have a small pretty witch tattoo and only had that in recent years, my daughter has a fabulous tattoo on her lower back, it is supposed to be the Eye of Rahr (sp) but I say it is the eye of Horus, you know the Egyptian eye that is on the Dollar bill i think it is. She also has her birth date in hieroglyphics vertically up the base of her spine, which looks quite cool. As long as they are done by a tattoo artist as opposed to a tattooist then i think there is an element of style about them.

i've got three. My first was done after years of thinking about it. i found the design i wanted and all i had to do was pluck up the courage. i eventually did on a drunken weekend in blackpool. the tattoo place looked ok so i went in. After i got it done i hated it. The tattooist obviously didn't take any time or effort on the design. he had traced it back to front and then put it on my lower back upside down. It was a pic of a tribal sun. It was a lovely design but on my back looked like a squashed spider!! I was gutted especially as it is suppose to be for life. i went to another tattooist weeks later and had the sun recorrected and extra tribal bits put either side of the sun. That tatt is bigger now than i wanted but i really love it and get lots of comments on how lovely and unusual it is even tho that wasn't the plan. The tattooist i use now is fab and thats where i got my others done, 3 little hearts on my foot and shooting stars on my hips. Places that can be covered or shown if i want to. My advice to u is know for def what u want and find a decent tattoo place!!!

that's really creepy dotty- to deliberately make a name very similar to yours then wait 2 weeks before posting? Why in God's name? I could understand it if he/she had said anything bad, but they hadn't, why I was confused.

It's probably not the 'done thing' to name and shame, but i agree with BOO.

I've got 8 altogether.

A paw print on my wrist, an "om" sign on my shoulder, wings on both ankles, a flower on my belly, some vines on my lower back, and some cherry blossoms in each arm pit.

I love each and every one of them, and the easiest to hide are the arm pit ones. You just don't stretch in front of people. Saying that, they were the most painful!!
