read through this thread from the other day - 4 or 5 posts down answers your question v nicely.
additionally when you ask a question you are presented with a list of questions siminal that have been asked before... not moaning - but it might be an idea just to scan through them before posting next time

if you phrase it somewhat differently it's more interesting
If an organism develops a mutation that gives it a greater advantage over the rest of its kind will it always out-compete it's un-mutated relatives so that they become extinct? If not what are the critea that would allow them to co-exist?
