Living without a spleen

''It is possible to live without a spleen as most of its functions can be taken over by other organs. However, people without spleens are more vulnerable to all kinds of infections''

My brother had his spleen removed after he ruptured it sledging down a steep hill ~ as far as I know he doesn't suffer from any more infections than he did before it was removed.
