Hi not posted here for a while!! Anyway ive just got back from a weekend away and after speaking to a good friend from uni am thinking about making some big changes.

But id like some opinions on if i am making the right decisions.

She is currently working in birmingham and says i should move up there. Also that I have not made enough effort to find an admin job to get me started on the ladder. Its true that I have not thrown my whole effort into getting what i want.

I am living at home at the moment and very unhappy. Aside from family i have few ties where i live in hertfordshire but see birmingham as a great oppertunity. Its just that i am not confident in my ability to loeave home and get a job there. My parents say i should make applications and get a job secured before moving up there. Anyway any advice on risks and making big changes in life would be much appreciated.

Good on you steve, you don't need to know what you you will be doing in 6 months or 1 year though, you are young, youv'e got to live, don't be rigid in your outlook, don't be frightened to have a go or take a chance, we only really learn steve, by the mistakes we make, if we don't learn from them, well there is no hope for us, wish you luck mate whatever you decide and wherever you end up,

30 years ago I came on Holiday to wales, loved it so much, went back to London, packed in my job, put the double bed on the roof rack and came to North wales, no regrets, give a go steve, have faith in yourself. cheers, Ray

thanks to all and bye to AB!
Good luck Steve, wish you well.
Good luck Steve, and remember, there is no shame in making mistakes in life....everyone makes them at some point...just do what you feel is right and what makes you happy. Thats the most important thing at the end of the day. Take care of yourself xxx
Steve - I've always found if you don't like your life it's pay's to change it.
Right at this minute the safe option is the civil service job, do you really want to do it? If not, why don't you see if you can kip on your friends floor for a month, in that time you apply for jobs and find yourself somewhere to live in Brum. Don't give your self the failsafe of 'I can go home if it goes wrong' that's defeatist. Your targets are too long, they give you the option of backing out and you DO need to step out of your comfort zone Steve or you'll never be able to move forward.

Good Luck

ok i know i said i would go but...

just opened a letter asking me for an interview in a couple of weeks time. This would be as a community fundraiser and although it would be doing what i want i am not sure that it would make me happy. I need to be with the people i know and going in at the deep end. Although the job would be challanging its only round the corner from home and i now know i need to be somewhere with a lot more oppertunities than where i live at the moment.

But i dont like the thought of turning down an interview for a good job after all the effort i put into appplying. the interview is not until the 10th november so i suppose i could try and apply for as much birmingham stuff until then.
So you've now admitted that you really dont wanna stay around and do that job if offered so dont. Just contact them and say something else has come up thank you very much but please dont let the opportunity to make a fresh start pass by - you could regret it for the rest of your life. As you get older and have a family yourself it will be much more difficult to uproot but in your position you really have nothin to lose and everything to gain. Let us know what u decide to do.
