kids visting a mosque
51 Answers
My kids school has no set reglion , and today all the kids aged 9 to 12 were to visit a mosque . I first the parents were okish about this idea , as we were told two weeks before hand , yesturday though My daughter came home and told us that she needed a head scarf and a covering for her face ..shes only 9!!!
We felt that , this practice was going a bit far and kept the kids of school today ...as did most of the parents .
I am all for the kids learning new reglions and vivsting places with the school , but I felt that making my daughter dress in that way was a bit over the top .
what would you have done??

I remember going to a mosque when I was at school but we only had to cover our heads so most of us wore baseball caps. :-)
I agree with China Doll.
And providing they are going to go to other places of worship - a church, a synagogue (sp?), etc. so long as they're getting an equal and broad subject matter, then they should have worn what was suggested, same as boys will have to wear skullcaps (apologies if this is incorrect) when they go in a synagogue - would you object to that if your child was a boy??

flipflop ..last year they went to visit a jewish church and they had to wear the skull cap ..they were not permitted to wear anything else ..and yup my son refused to go.
Can I add also ..that I am not anit muslim in any way ..I dated 3 muslim men in my past . I was the fact that we were not told this til the very last min and the kids ..being kids as they are were all horrified .
There is also no islamic kids around where I live , no wee girls who wear the hinjub{sp},, no women either.

Are you entirely sure that they were expected to cover their whole face? This seems highly unlikely. In (most) mosques women wear clothes that cover them from head to ankles, but keep their faces uncovered. All people who visit a mosque are expected to remove their shoes. This has been the case in all the mosques I have visited in the world. In the way that we would expect others to respect our beliefs and rules (whether it be taking your shoes off in the porch so as to keep the carpet clean in your house) so should we respect theirs. But he whole face thing does seem a bit odd. Are you sure it wasnt just a head scarf? i.e. to cover the hair?
