I started the menopause almost 7 years ago and have had palpitations on and off which my gp said was normal but since last week I've been getting them everyday and night. Is anyone like me? Im thinking of seeing my gp,getting a bit worried now. TIA.

I quite agree ..i had this quite a bit when I was going through the menopause and my doctor told me at the time it was quite normal in "women of a certain age"! It did stop after a while.
Do you drink a lot of coffee ? I used to and found cutting that out helped . However I would ask for a thyroid test although with that I found the horrible throbbing sensation was in the pit of my throat .But it's best to rule it out .

Hi shaney, So you've had it too? I dont drink much coffee, just 1-2 cups a week and then it has to be the mild one. I do like my tea tho'. I had a thyroid test last year, all ok there. It's eased earlier but today I felt like my heart was gona jump outa my chest! I've got that throbbing in my throat right now. Think I'll see the doc tomorrow just to check. Thanks.
Hi again daisy ..yes do go back to the doctor.
Even if the thyroid test came up negative last time you never know although sometimes if thyroid function is borderline they are wary of giving you any medication as it can make you hyper. It is unpleasant and I do hope you can get to the bottom of it and that you soon feel better.Take care.

Yes, me too daisy, but as shaney says do go back to your gp. He may send you for an ECG (only takes 10 mins)
I've been told I have many more ectopic beats (extra heartbeats) than most people but it can be normal for some.
I have to say that just worrying about it makes it more noticeable. Gentle exercise such as walking can help.
Oh it's great getting older eh? Take care.

Caz,shaney and Robinia, I saw the doc today and I've to go back tomorrow for the ECG. My blood pressure was fine but my pulse was a bit erratic. I asked her to examine my boobs as I fell and landed on my left one in september and its still painful so she's reffered me to the breast clinic. I have'nt had a mammogram for 5 years as I have mastalgia so how they're going to x ray me I dont know Thanks agan. Daisy x
hi Daisy....glad you're not having to wait for the ECG & I hope that all is well. Maybe it's a hormone related thing....you didn't say whether you're on hrt but if you are they'd be watching your blood pressure.
Sorry to hear about the mastalgia, ( I have an 'algia' too but not that one) it must be very uncomfortable, but I'm sure the breast clinic are used to dealing with it.
Easy for me to say but try not to worry - keep us posted, sometimes makes you feel better doesn't it?

Im not on HRT Robinia. I alway's use black cohosh for my flushes. I dont even know if Im thro the change, when I asked the doc she said all women are different..NO really?. I dont get flush's anymore, more like constantly hot. My hubby just rang from work,a workmate's wife could'nt have a mammogram so she had "Thermal X Ray's! . I think I'll ask for that! So you have an "Algia" too? Its like and " Onology" is'nt it? LOL. x
Hi Daisy ..glad to see they are sorting this out for you .They gave me an ECG earlier this year when I pitched up with the thyroid trouble.I'm sure you will be fine but it's best to have a thorough check .All these algias, ologies and oids !!
Take care and hope you soon feel better .Let us know how you get on .
