Hairy arms and legs
8 Answers
Hi all, Im really hoping that someone can help me with this! My daughter is nine and has always had very hairy forearms and legs, obviously I dont notice it or bother about it, but over the past few years every now and then she would bring up the subject of how hairy she actually is (pointed out by nasty little kids at school) I would just reasure her that she is a beautiful little girl (which she is!) and just to ignore the nasty comments, even this summer in term time she would never take her jumper off!! Anyway, she asked me this morning if I could get her a long sleeved top for p.e tomorrow, when I asked her why she burst into tears and said that she doesnt want anyone to see her hairy arms! What should I do? And is there any creams that maybe would lighten the colour of the hair?!? Thanks Lou

My nine year old already asks when she can shave her legs!!!! And she is fair skinned and haired....just a sign of the times I suppose....sigh....
I don't really know what to suggest, just felt I had to say something. There are probably 'lightening' kits available, but in the long term, it's not really the answer is it? Maybe go to a local salon and ask for their advice [just advice...not treatment....tooooo exspensive!] I know when I was younger my Dad refused to let me shave my legs so I used those sand papery disc things....not ideal, but maybe an alternative!
Aside from that just keep being the Mummy that you are...just keep telling her how beautiful she is.

I was watching Alison Young on QVC the other day and there was a product on there called NADS. The lady who developed it did so for her young daughter who had dark hair on her arms (think her daughter called Nadine hence name of product).
Its a waxing kit - it may be worth e mailing Alison Young at QVC - they answer all sorts of questions and are really helpful. The website is qvcuk.com. As divegirl said salons are probably going to be expensive and it may be nicer to do something at home.
I'm sure your daughter is beautiful but it must be very hard (as we all remember ourselves) when the other kids are teasing her. Good luck with this and lots of love to your daughter. :o)

Thanks so much for that Lisa going to go and buy some this afternoon, I'll try anything just to help her, didnt even think of asking at a salon I know a really nice girl that I am going to ring and I shall ask her advice aswell! Also thanks Athley I will also look into this as it sounds interesting! Thanks again for all help I really appreciate it. Lou x
Please tell her she's not alone. I was EXACTLY the same at her age. My Mum used Jolene bleach on my arms which certainly helped and I think nowadays they do a sensitive skin one which would be better for youngsters. As I grew up, the hairs became less noticeable as I was fattening up!! Now, I just bleach my arms for the summer and don't worry about it the rest of the year. I Have to shave my legs every day in the summer but that doesn't take 2 mins in the shower. Now I'm older I have noticed quite a few girls I work with , with the same problem - some worse than mine and some not so bad. So I know I'm not alone. Now and again I'll have a little moan to my boyfriend about it but he tells me it doesn't bother him and unless I point it out to him, he doesn't notice! Kids can be cruel but I don't think they really mean what they say. Good luck with whatever you decide to do or not do x x
