In particular, I am lacking in understanding about which versions or elements of the bible are used or thought to be true. I wondered if you could enlighten me somewhat.
For instance, which bible (or which elements of the bible) do the following organisations believe in?
1. Roman Catholic
2. CoE ( I am guessing New Testament, and is this what is commonly known as the KJV?)
3. Anglican
4. Evangelical /Gospel (Elements from the NT plus the OT?)
5. Jewish ( OT only?)
Any other of the major groups that I have not listed.
Thanks in advance.

I am really impressed by Theland and ummmm. I agree with Theland's view on R.C. I am a Nigerian, but I lived in the UK for years. Whilst in the UK I discovered that quite a number of people, especially the youths, do not believe in God, talkless of serving Him. The 'celebrity' culture seemed to have taken over and youths know more about a Madonna or a Britney Spears than Jesus. It made my heart really heavy and I had to do some evangelism around London, trying to reach out, before finally returning to Nigeria.
I am really thrilled to know that there is still a handful like Theland and ummmm who do believe in God and are passionate about him. Your exchanges have been really inspiring.
May the Lord continue to bless you and strengthen you. I also pray that the Lord will reveal himself to those who have not known him.

LazyGun - Roman Catholic doctrine gives equal authority to scripture AND its own traditions. That is why they can justify purgatory, praying to dead people, Mary worship, indulgences, celibacy and giving the pope undue veneration that should be the preserve of God alone. I am told that to fully understand R.C. doctrine, one would have to read through thirty five volumes of Catholic canon law! They also believe in transubstantiation, which means crucifying Jesus over and over again in every mass.
LazyGun - Anglicans / Church of England have more latitude at local level. There are some very good Bible believing vicars in local churches, but also some very liberal ones that disregard the bits of the Bible that don't fit in with their views.
Jewish beliefs are focuses solely on the Old Teastament.
Evangelical /Gospel simply believe in the whole Bible, adding nothing and taking nothing away.
