Swiss Army Knife?

Why do Swiss army knives have a nail file? Is a good manicure really conducive to fighting the enemy in hand to hand combat?

Well, yes Theland, my knowledge on Swiss weaponry has been a talking point for some time. As for the correct amount of blades/tools on a Swiss Army Knife rather depends on the particular range we are talking about and of course the pig stabber would not of been one of them as that is an English name not Swiss!!

And Athley, no they haven't, would you want to go to war with that poxy little penknife? by the time you consulted the manual as to which is the disemboweling blade, you would either be dead or the war would be over!!

You must forgive my ignorance on such military matters, as my little pocket knife (used only in work of course) cost a quid in the market and says, "made in China" on the blade. Iguess that Switzerland and China must have some kind of military pact. Some of the blades on my little cheap impersonation defy the imagination as to their uses.

I understand that Iran is trying to develop its own version of the Swiss army knife, but has come up against fierce objections from the international community, because some of the gadgets on it are deemed to be a threat to world peace.

I understand that the Iranian version is not as safe if dropped or thrown, I think the prototype is still to big to fit in the average pocket but they are working on it though.

In these days of "chip 'n pin" etc, wouldn't you think they would have some useful blades, like, computer virus remover, supermarket queue reducer, credit card destroyer, and lottery ticket spike?

How many first world war soldiers had their appendix removed with the rusty blade of these wonderful knives in the knee deep mud of the trenches? (According to many 'andy capped' veterans, sat in the pubs many years ago!)

Lonnie - There you go! I WAS right! Maybe it's to do with the Geneva Convention, where a broken nail could be classed as an inhumane weapon in close combat. The Swiss troopers must be the best presented soldiers in the world, and probably have their manicures inspected on parade!
