baby scan
17 Answers
I went with my daughter for her scan today. She would have liked to know the sex of the baby but they told her because they usually do the scans a lot earlier they do not have a policy of tell you what you are having, and if they told her it wouldn't be fair to the other mums. Seems crazy to me. How would the other mums have known and would they have wanted to know anyway. What do you think?

Who cares about the other mums? it's a woman asking them a question about the sex of HER baby not theirs. Their job is to treat your daughter as an individual and if your daughter wants to know the sex of her baby then their opinion should be kept to themselves!!! she should have insisted. Treat them with the same attitude as they treated her. We are all equal and they are no better than you.

blimey, still on a rant here lol..... the other attitude I have come accross is that they winge "oh, we're so stressed and busy we haven't got time"
Yeah? well you chose the job love!!! if you can't stand the heat......
They're all bl00dy megalomaniacs anyway..... taken from a very good medical lawyer/lecturer friend of mine.....

Its just some trusts policy. She just gets to look forward to the surprise, surely its a nice thing to look forward too. Its never a definite anyway.
I didnt kknow for my first and didnt want to know for the second but we all noticed it was a boy. The other mums would find out if your daughter told anyone what she was expecting.
Beryl is right if she really wants to know she could get a private scan. My mum (who is a midwife) reckons you get 3 the early one that scans for downs, a first trimester dating scan, a second trimester scan to check for other abnormalities and sexing for around 200 quid.

It was purely for a practical reason really. Doesn't mind what it is. She already has two girls and two boys. The youngest being nearly 2. The oldest nearly 17. She still has a lot of nice clothes from the last little girl (she knew she was girl before she was born) but it's pointless hanging on to them if it turns out to be a boy. She just wanted to have some things in the right colour. pink or blue instead of all white. She is 24 weeks so the scan pictures were pretty good. You could cleary see the face and its little arms and hands. The nurse could have just scanned round that area and let her see for herself which it was. That way she would not have actually told her. I can understand if you have all girls or all boys and desperately want one of the other sex but she really does not mind it would have just been nice for her to know. Never mind we will have to wait and see and if it is a boy we will have to do some shopping fast.
I replied to the post Wardy is referring to. If it was me I wouldn't want to know and as I said in that post a friend of my other daughter was told she was having a girl and it turned out to be a boy and this was a private scan. But I still think my daughter could have been told if that is what she wanted. Then again we were only born in the country.
