My friend is pregnant. She said she heard about some cream that you could use "down there!" to help prevent tearing during labour. Does this exist and has anyone used it?

Thanks, and sorry for the cringe factor involved in this question!

not a cream but you massage here is how (not for the faint hearted!)

http://www.childbirth.org/articles/massage.htm l
isint it called bio-oil, found in superdrug
Yeah bio-oil its is meant to be great, my friend used it
I thought bio oil is used to prevent/improve stretch marks.
I think any sort of massage helps ~ regardless of the oil you use.

I do remember someone at the NCT recommending a cream..for the life of me I can't remember the name of it but someone else told me that it was the massage action itself that did the job :o)
I was told to use pure almond oil and I used it every day throughout my pregnancy. I'm sure it helped some, I ended up with 2 very small stitches that didn't trouble me at all and they healed beautifully. Like Pippa said, I'm sure you could use a large number of oils, it's the massage that helps.
Any oil (check homeopathic therapies with a nurse practiotioner/midwife)first to help making massaging easier. Helps really if you can get your partner to do it. If you are going to tear though, its just going to happen. I did with both my children, fortunately my mother is a midwife so they gave me brilliant stitches each time (think she scared them)
Angel-Cake...I love you...I want you.
