Pregnant?
3 Answers
Hi all! Just came back from the pub, and a friend of mine's been feeling very queazy and unwell the past couple of days. She's quite worried and asked me if it's possible to feel the morning sickness symptoms so early (she apparently had sex on Tuesday with another friend of ours, but that's another story...). She says he didn't come inside her, although there was "some" penetration. I didn't know what to say! I'm quite sure the symptoms can't appear after your first missed period, but am I wrong? Can't find any help for her online, she's quite distressed! Anybody?

"Morning Sickness" (which can happen at any time of the day or night but most commonly in the morning) is thought to be caused by the flood of oestrogen produced by the placenta and the foetus. It typically happens around 3-4 weeks post fertilisation/implantation... earlier onset has been noted, but at around 14 days or so.
I think reassurance would be that the symptoms as described could be due to any one of a host of causes.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/parenting/having_a_baby/p regnancy_sickness.shtml According to this you can have it before you miss your period. I know thats not the answer she wants but maybe she is making herself ill with worry.
Yes, she's very worried. She's gone home now, but told me about feeling sick when we were talking about our xmas dinner, and all the meat we had! I think she's all the more worried because the "potential" father is a friend of ours, and the poor sods only had one (drunken) night together...Well, we've told her to get herself a pregnancy test next week, gave all the usual comforting words (lol) and told her to wait. Nothing more we can do now hey!
