In the years that followed, some 40-50 cases were recorded in which a house fire had destroyed everything except for the picture. It became known as the "Curse of the Crying Boy", and even made headline news at one point. The picture itself was a portrait painted by a Spanish artist of an orphan. It is said that his studio burnt to the ground, and the boy was later killed in a car crash. The picture is one of the first to be mass produced in the UK, there are several thousand of them in circulation, but the curse still appears to apply to all the copies. It is said that the curse will only effect someone if the owner of the painting becomes aware of it. Some psychics have claimed that the painting is Haunted by the spirit of the boy it depicts.

I remember going into a bric a brac shop in the 80's and there were 3 of the painting's. The shop owner said people were too scared to keep them and, she'd had a minor fire in the backroom since she had the 1st painting. My friend suffered a miscarriage late into her pregnancy and she also had a painting. Could be coincidence but everything was going well till she bought the painting at a boot sale. She'd already had 2 baby's with no problems.
she died on holiday 5 years ago out of the blue and she was fit and healthy b4 she went also the day b4 she went i told her i was pregnant with her first great grand child and she had her first grandchilds wedding when she got back, she had everything to look 4ward to i wonder if this has anything to do with it?
To my undying shame my mother has one ( to go with her plaster ducks and garish carpet) and has had it for years, she knows about the curse but she said she's not getting rid of it
"because it cost me 3.99!!!" Lol.
Nothing has ever happened to her, and it'd take a bloody good ghost to have a crack at her. Lol
Sorry to say it's all supersticious nonsense but a bloody good story none the less.

Wow, that gave me goosebumps. My Nan had one of those paintings years back, and I vaguely remember a story about my Dad and Uncle trying to burn it and it bled!! Seriously!!! My Dad had never told a lie, and while it was in the house loads of creepy stuff happened. I'd forgotten all about it until reading your post!
ahhh andy it is you - just checking, thought you might have cleaned up your act a little bit after being banned so often... i see that you are persisting in your uncivilised and down right rule behaviour, as i am a gentleman of class and distinction i apologise but i must now ignore you as quite frankly it is beneath me to enter into such primitive arguments with one such as yourself ... good day
