I was reading an article on cremation and it said that morbidly obese people can not be cremated. Does anyone know why this is?

Do they not fit in the 'burner' (seriously)...
If anyone mentions it's to do with the amount of fat on their body and what happens when fat gets hot, I'll barf!!!!
Not entirely true.

This news refers to a Norfolk family who were told their dead mother could not be cremated in her home city because she was too large.

Penelope Stapleton from Norwich, who weighed 22 stone, died of a heart attack aged 61.

Her coffin was too large for the facilities at Norwich's Earlham crematorium and the family was forced to arrange a cremation 120 miles (193km) away in Watford.
Well surely there must be some inane manual handling regulations involved and numerous risk assessments too.
Boo- I know, but surely all that yukky yellow fat must take some time to melt and be extinguished !!
blurghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
They could make candles out of it for future services... ;o)

I'll post further details after my dinner (chilli Spanish chicken)
Sorry Boo matey !

What about burial then of obese people. Do they have to dig a bigger hole and have a bigger coffin? - seriously.
Actually tiger628, we are talking deceased morbidly obese people here, aren't we ?
I mean, if they are still breathing, moving (or eating) I don't think it would be allowed !
Sounds like the fat's really in the fire!
oopsy - I also meant dead obese people being buried.

Public Warning

Do not bury or cremate live people!!!
Be a bit like that huge self-basting turkey that you buy at Christmas, only to discover it won't fit in the oven . LOL

Sorry, but I have to tell you that my daughter <discreetly, I add> calls morbidly obese people "porky sausages" . No idea where it came from.
I sometimes wonder why I bother reading this section of the answerbank. Between the clicky groups that use it as some sort of chatter site and others that use it to post stupid jokey comments to serious questions.
Anyway, i'm staying well away from this from now on.
Cheerio - your choice, we live in a democracy after all. Freedom of speech and all that.
I'm glad to see I was not dissapointed. As you say freedom of choice means I was able to give my view as well as you yours.

Thanks for the cheerio though, very civil.
My pleasure - would never go against anyone giving their inion, I am quite a civil person and resent being classed as 'stupid' in your opinion. Perhaps we have different perspectives on life (and death) and obviously differ in the humour stakes.
oopsy

Your daughter does realise you're not allowed to stick forks in them doesn't she?!?

Hold on - maybe that could be the solution to the original cremation query.

(By the way 2 of my cousins are funeral directors so I'm allowed to make jokes about dead people - its the law)

:o)
