search question

This is a question to AbEd really rather than a suggestion.
When you search using one word only you get hundreds of possibles. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason beind how these are sorted. It isn't by date as far as I can see. Is there a method so that I can more easily look up questions from this month only on a particular topic?
