However it's not unknown to have such pain from a more severe bladder or kidney infection. Chances are your doc will want a urine sample to make sure.
Your bloke's had you on barley water because it's supposed to be an aid to cleansing the kidneys. However, you could also drink cranberry juice. My mum's GP told me that proper medical trials have been done on it, and it is proven to prevent/control urinary infections. Drink a glass a day.
Meantime, use a hotty-botty or a warm wheat bag against the pain site to ease it a little. I would suggest you take a mild painkiller, but I'm not sure whether it's wise.

Sound's like Cystitus buzybee. It comes under Urinary Tract Infection's. Your Gp will no doubt prescribe antibiotic's for you. Barley water is good. You could try adding just a tip of a teaspoon of bi-carbonate of soda to a pint of luke warm water,it neutralise's the acid in your wee. Place a hot water bottle on your tummy, that helps.
Go to A &E. I had cystitus really bad so went to the docs, had a course of antibiotics but it came back as soon as finished the course. That night the pain got so bad i was in tears and phoned the NHS helpline who advised me to go to A&E. The sooner you get antibiotics the better, in the meantime, take a couple of nurofen to ease it slightly. Hope you feel better soon.
