Society Breaking Down
24 Answers
Do you agree that with the increases in crime, (especially violent crime), drugs, the occult, sexual immorality, family breakdown, and a turning away from God to a secular humanist outlook, our society is irretrievably breaking down?
I think it has gone too far for any remedial action to be effective, and that things will only get worse.

I think the gun culture that is becoming so prevalent in this country of late is frightening but it is confined to certain groups of people, namely the gangs. I cant see an end to this and can only see it getting worse unfortunately, not good for our kids.

I don't think humanists are particularly given to violent crime; by and large, humanism doesn't lead to a lot of wars, unlike religion through the ages. Personally, I blame unrestrained greed. Typically, it was Thatcher sho said there was no such thing as society, so she's gotta be one of the culprits.
Britain has always had a violent and seedy underbelly. I tend to think that things don't really get worse just different. Were the 1800's any less violent than today? Different methods, less reported but just as scarey I would imagine.
And as for 'turning away from god', I should think it's the turning TO god that causes most of the problems. People always like to thnk that their god is the real one, and everyone elses beliefs are as nothing.

British society has "worked" for years. As the years pass its been finetuned. However, like any society, it's success is down to it's inhabitants. The permissive society is good in some respects, bad in others. Unmarried mothers and gays were once subjected to ostracision and now thankfully they are not. But somewhere along the line children started to get away with all kinds of misdemeanour and the result is that no-one can chastise even the most ill-behaved of them without being arrested themselves.
The greatest problem in recent years is the sheer numbers of migrants coming here. No society can absorb the flock of new residents we've had in the past 10 years. I'm not suggesting that migrants are evil; mostly they are simply too marked by their own cultures to ever fit in properly here and the result is huge problems for us. Schools where 50 languages are spoken are now commonplace at the expense of our own kid's education. Non English speakers are given access to our amenities and millions are spent printing leaflets and providing interpreters. The NHS has more burden put on it's resources by having to observe cultural sensitivites plus the onus of health tourists making a mockery of our generosity. Housing and space are running out. Terrorist plots, hatched mainly by immigrants cause turmoil. Gun crime is virtually non-existent in white communities who are not turning inner cities into cesspits of muggings & shootings.
Our open borders mean that thousands of dangerous criminals come here. They are prone to destroy any documentation making their id obscure. Hassan the Rapist can walk right in with Abdul the Doctor and no-one has any clue about their characters until it's too late. Women trafficked from Eastern Europe and Asia, gangsters from those said places finding paradise in our open borders, suicide bombers, 2nd generation Britons panting for Sharia law, deluded Africans who see us as their meal ticket - all of it facilitated by our current

I blame the liberal lefties and the PC brigade for a lack of discipline and personal responsibilty. It's always someone elses fault whether we're blaming schools for failing to control kids, or the Government for not giving enough money, or a criminal's upbringing for making them twunts.
What does religion have to do with it? Far more violence has been committed throughout human history in the name of religion than by non-believers. Even now in these supposedly more enlightened times it still goes on.
In this context all relgiion does, or rather did, was provide a way of controlling the masses with fear of going to hell.

I do agree, Theland, that our society is irretrievably breaking down, but I don't think it's because people are moving away from god. In this multi-cultural society, religion is causing rifts, and media influence has a lot to answer for too. Our children, with the blessing of their parents, are continually exposed to base and unsuitable subject matter, they are not taught right from wrong, many parents don't back schools that try to introduce a little discipline, society now has a 'me, me, me' attitude, with no thought or respect anyone else, and the law is an ass. The government is attempting to control every aspect of our lives, even to the point of denying us the basic right to freedom of speech, political correctness is paramount, and the Human Rights Act is being abused continually. Things that at one time were deemed by anyone with an ounce of common sense and of common decency to be unacceptable have now become the norm and the lunatics have taken over the asylum - but maybe I shouldn't say that. Not terribly politically correct is it!
Sadly, I have to agree with you. It has gone too far for any remedial action to be effective, and things will only get worse. What a depressing thought.

Wizard69 - You virtually used up this months quota of stars. Just found a few on the floor to keep you going.
Now I'm desperate to know what you do to earn your living. Surely you must write comedy scripts? Speeches for Tony Blair? (They're quite funny aren't they?)
I can't imagine you in a job where you had to be serious all day.
Give us a clue.
