How long does it take for a heavy smoker (a pack a day) to get lung cancer? What about someone who smokes only one cigarette a day? thank you much.

How long's a piece of string? Some heavy smokers get cancer quickly, some don't get it at all - but the same applies to non-smokers as well. The only sure proven fact is that the risk of developing cancer is significantly higher if you smoke (at all), so the best advice is not to smoke.
My dad smoked more than a pack of Gitannes a day, for over 25 years and never got lung cancer. He got throat cancer instead.
more worrying, a student friends of our ate absolutley nothing but the products of a well known burger restaurant (honestly, he lived next door to it) for the entire 4 years he was at university. riddled with cancer at 23 and sadly no longer with us. no warnings on their packaging.
My Father smoked all his adult life & died of prostate cancer at 85. My father-in- law smoked & died of lung cancer at 54. My brother-in-law smoked & died of throat cancer at 62. My sister still smokes & is currently undergoing treatment for bladder cancer at 60. My brother smokes is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at 65. Everyone is different & so are the cancers. We & medical staff have tried to discourage them from smoking, but once hooked can be very hard to stop! The rest is in the lap of God! (Thankfully, hubby & I are non smokers).
