34 Answers
Go back before you had the internet what did you do at Day/night times ?
TV had 3 channels no sky or cable
And NO remotes.
TV started at 9ish and finished around 12 with the national anthem playing.
Moblie phones only yuppies had them could you do without it now?
Music was on vinyl and tape no Cds/MP3's/Hard drives.
Video was on Tape no dvd's/ Hard drives.
And the Microwave
What use to cheese me off a kid the kettle with the whistle that boiled its head off and blew the whistle off.
Not now
Can i have your thoughts on the above but really how did we cope.
Thanks mrknownothing

Everybody that visited said how homley it was to be able to talk instead of sitting around a tv or trying to sort out commputer problems.
Nowadays I (obviously) have a commputer and I love the internet but I could easily live without it, same with the tv although thats mainly for the benefit of Mrs. wiz. I have thought about getting rid of it though as it is viewed rarley.
I personally think that technology is overated.

I agree. I sit at night now looking through the sky planner at over 100 channels and there is nothing to watch so I just get back into the habit of reading, or doing crosswords or even just talking.I spend a lot of time on the internet but also notice that it makes people very lazy because everything is available so you don't even have to go out the door if you don't want to. What will it be like in another 20 years?
Right my thoughts are as follows:
I have a freeview box so have a few more channels but as with sky/cable ect... I still find nothing to watch.
At the early hours of the morning when I couldn't sleep I'd read a book now I whack the telly on and there's nothing but those stupid quiz call bloomin shows yet I still can't turn them off.
My mobile phone is a pain the butt. If you don't reply to a text or a missed phone call suddenly you have a problem with someone as to why you haven't called them back. Wish I didn't have one!
I do love my cd's but also long for days when I used to wait for Sundays and tape the tope 40 trying to get to the end of the song before the DJ kicked in!
Love videos especially my old betamax had that for several years even after VHS came out
We coped very well indeed as knew no better and if they kept the cost of the hi tech gadgets up then a lot of us would still not own them.
Games machines are the makers of fat kids. Nothing I liked more than arranging on a Friday at school to meet up at the weekends with my mates, pound in hand for the local sweet shop and get on our bikes and head off. Can't do such things now which such perves about but also kids are more interested in sitting in for hours playing computer games.
Also yes the internet is very handy but it distracts me sooooooo much at work and at home that I wish it wasn't around.
If we didn't have it we wouldn't know any better and would just do as we do. But hey ho!!
Excuse me but I'm drunk and having a rant
xx

Before mobile phones, when we were in the supermarket instead of phoning home and asking 'what kind of apples do you want, the royal gala, the washington reds, or the pink lady?', we'd just use our brains and make a decision.
Of course, the decision was made easier by the fact that in those days there was only one type of apple available.

My childhood was without tv or home telephone. We loved the wireless, card games and craft work such as knitting and rug making, chatting all the while.
Cooking too played a big part - making rock cakes, fairy cakes, puddings and bread. Meal times seemed to last a lot longer.
Quiet time was Dad reading the paper, Mother reading her book and us children with our comics, books and drawing.
Summer evenings out on our bikes - the whole family, and often the neighbours too. Home at 9 - for supper, and bedtime stories.
Happy times. But hard times too - no central heating, outdoor lav, Jack Frost on the windows, sticking the nets to the glass - but we had no more and no less than our neighbours.
