me and mates are goin out as fancy dress on weekend for a birthday, was just wondering what are peoples experiences of this? ive never done it before....should i expect thugs to target me for abuse or will i get extra female attention for showing i can have a laugh?

They certainly weren't targeted by thugs, if it's in a city most people would be used to seeing people dressed up. Anf yeah, I'd say the groups in fancy dress did get more people going over to talk to them and comment on their outfits.
I used to hate the groups though cos every single one of them thought it must be the first time the staff had seen such a hilarious site as people dressed in fancy dress! (Mind you, I was a notoriously miserable barmaid so I wouldn't worry about that!)

My OH is 6" and over 16 st but once dressed up in a pink tutu
he's also been a chicken and dressed in drag along with about 7 other blokes. They went to several pubs and a nightclub and had a whale of a time, loads of blokes bought them drinks for having the b***s to do it! So go out here and strut yer stuff Scooby!!!!
