Hi there fellow ABers . Do you keep a lot in your home and collect clutter , and store things saying " that may come in handy one day ". or do you prefer the minimalistic home decor ?

i am tidy when i live with others, but just me, and i am messy.
no mouldy plates and cups, and crusty wrappers though - very fussy about that sort of thing.
its because i am arty and keep things to be arty with, that to otheres is junk, and also for my job - props, sets, costumes etc so its mostly piles of books, clothes, papers, bits, paint, machinery, etc etc

Im afraid I seem to be the opposite to you lot!
My house is very cluttered but mainly due to the fact that when I went it alone with just my daughter, I had absolutely nothing, so all my wonderful friends and family rallied round me and my 16 month old, giving us anything and everything they could!! As a result, my house became very cluttered very quick as I was too polite to say no. But it is my intention to go right through and have a massive clear to try and get an almost minimilistic look!
I have already started! My plan is to go through everything and what I havent needed for at least a year and doesnt have precious memories(like photos) goes!!
Would anyone like to help? lol

Well RATTER is so right, we have lots and lots of things. When my mum came to live with me she brought with her a fair amount of beautiful top quality older furniture that is hard to come by. I didn't have the heart to make her give any of it up. Besides it seems to mix well with mine. Friends have remarked that our home should be featured in a "Better Homes" magazine as it oozes charm, coziness and a sense of international discovery. As RATTER and I are both artists ( he creates wonderful metal art and I paint) this enhances the craziness of our house. But, it is important to me that it is not cluttered as such and is kept clean and welcoming. Our furniture and decor comes from India, Mexico, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Africa, Thailand and Tibet, so I guess is a mad mix. But hey, it works! Oh, and lots of candles !! I do have several boxes of amazing memorabilia from when my father was an actor / singer and some nick-knacks that belonged to my late son. And these will always be with me. Even our garden has metal art sculptures peeking out through the flowers and shrubs. I do like the minimalist look, but I need the warmth of this cozy cottage. :o)
