Are electronic bathroom scales more acurate than mechanical ones?

Yes, they are more accurate, but must be used with manufacturers instructions. It may tell you what floor covering works best with the scales you chose. It may say they are OK on all surfaces: Tile, cushion floor and carpet etc.

I am much heavier on electronic scales at home than on mechanical ones at gym. Ipso facto the gym scales are correct....

I suspect you are comparing two different qualities, like a Porche to a Corsa. Home use scales will not be of the same standard as a proffesional set, hence the better reading at the Gym.

If the question is referring to mechanical bathroom scales then they are much of a muchness with the digital one being slightly bette......the old fashioned big metal balance numbers that doctors use are still the most accurate.

Digital bathroom scales are more consistent because the mechanical ones usually rely on springs which lose their tone over time and change with temperature, etc. This is the reason why mechanical ones need frequent calibration (re-setting of the zero). Those digitals (most ?) which operate on strain gauges are, I believe, not only consistent but also easily the most accurate. Prices of these have come down sharply to the point where they are almost as cheap as the mechanicals. Digitals usually measure to at least within 200g, if not 100g - those marketed in the UK can usually be switched to stoneage measure.

I tesed scales at Gym against those ones with weight on the doctors use - scales at Gym accurate! Hurrah! Break out the cakes...

Thank you all for your answers. My doc doesn't have those fancy scales with weights, just ordinary mechanical ones, but I weigh about 10lbs less on his scales than mine, so wondered if I would be better off with digital ones.
