my friend is due to get married in august , she met her soon to be hubby through newspaper dating , and they have been together for 2 years now !
would you date someone through a paper or would you be worried?

Yup I did it and have been with my fella, very happily for 13 years. Also, my mate met her husband of three years through the local paper dating column.

red I have done this for years and years and have had women flocking at my feet all the time,I found that it was the best way to meat women, then the internet came along and boy that was even 10 times better but have got a bit sad now and have found someone of the net that I am finnaly getting married to next year jezzz after one divorce I should know better shouldent I but ca sera sera would you like to come to my stag do in sunny majorca next year you will like it as it will be full of men

I went speed dating a few months ago, and the quality of birds was OK. Yes out of twenty birds, about 5 were absolute munters, 3 were dogs, 2 were mekons, one looked like Noel Edmonds and one was Asian. Therefore 8 were passable. Of those 4 or 5 expressed an interest in moi, of which I matched two.

I knocked one of the head immediately when I realised she chose 17 of the men involved and assumed she was just desperate to be a mother.

The other one, who was stunningly beautiful and a high flying legal exec in the city, didn't really go anywhere. A few emails and we never spoke again.

But overall I would say she was sane and no doubt would be good quality bird material.

wow , it does make u wonder though when u have to pay to meet people .all the men in our town are poor and skinny , mabye speed dating is the way forward?

Red I started of meeting women through the paper years ago as could not be bothered to go through the normal sh@t and have met so many women that I could not believe it and I know that I am not exactly the best looking bloke in the world but I get buy and had so many that have lost count now.
The only bad experiance that I had was when some person described herself as very attractive etc etc so made a date to meat her and she gave me her address and made arangments to meet her, after a few pints went there and it answered the door and it was as ugly as hell and I know one person would find somebody attractive and another would find the same person ugly, but that was really was the missing link.

So anyway she invited me in and I suppose that I had to be polite and take her offer of a cup of tea and took me to her bedroom as she lived with her parents and by then the sh't was rolling down my legs.
Then it got even worse we was talking and she asked me what I wanted out of this, and I said politey I am not sure what do you want (fattley mistake to make) as she said what I want is for somebody to come round here every weekend and sleep with me as my husband is in the army and spends a lot of time abroad OH MY GOD GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE AND QUICK so I made up my excusees and left very quick buit looking back on it now I can laugh about it even though I was a bit scarred at the time

As replied elsewhere I met my hubby computer dating. Lots of really nice fellas ringing, writing (remember writing) and dating and not a dud one there. Got confusing tho - 1st words to future other half were 'Are you Steve??' He forgave and married me 34 years ago. Would think hard about doing same now, tho my sister is just engaged to man she found on the net. Her last one was a blind date too. ((Say what you like we are not speaking anyway.) So it all boils down to how brave (or desperate!) the looker is. I wasn't desperate (as far as I can remember!) but I was young and looking for some quality male company and they were gents (almost!) We ALL need someone.

I've got a profile set up on a couple of dating websites and have replied to ads on gumtree but the women must get inundated with replies and I've never met anyone from it. How sad is that! I don't see anything wrong with it, just so long as you tell somebody where you are going and meet them somewhere public and you're careful.
