Silica gel

I saw this advertised in a magazine the other day, apparently it can improve your skin, hair and nails; does anyone know if it works well?

Silica gel is the compund found in small sachets supplied with most electrical equipment, it's purpose is to remove moisture that would damage the product in transit or storage. As most magazines or beauty products exhort us to moisturise our skin for best effect, how can it possibly work ? The only result of using Silica Gel I can imagine is dry skin and eventually wrinkles.
