Ok I might start a bit of a debate here, but stemming from another question on whether collection 2000 is tested on animals, If you found out the make-up you use was tested on animals would it stop you buying it?

and yes it is, your views are great ones and we dont need to get into an argument, can you imagine if legend and wardy were on this. :-)
I had a McChicken sandwich meal the other day from McDs (first time in a long time) and it tasted so bloody good and i so starving that i didnt even stop to think what kind of $hit was in it.

It was just convienient (drive thru), cheap and done the job.
I think the point is 4get, there are lots of things, the general public just don't care about. It's the governments job to stop these things from happening and the people bringing this to their attention is fortunately a large group. I'm not sure why its taken 6 years to enforce it, since being passed through the EU courts but hey ho, its happening. Taken out of our hands. There are plenty of issues I couldnt give a rats arse about that would probably horrify you.

Maybe boots or superdrug could put pictures of tortured animals next to each price tag and see how it effects their sales.
Well I stopped buying at The Bodyshop as soon as they sold out to L'Oreal, if that answers your question.

I'm not arrogant enough to assume that I've got it right with every cosmetic company I use. New cosmetics appear on the market all the time and you have to check the smallprint to see if they're part of a larger firm etc. Plus Company mergers/sales happen all the time and I only keep abreast of this because I scan the FT and monitor the odd beauty site on the internet.

If I have strong views it's because this, and supermarket food, and general better living are subjects that I've become increasingly passionate about. I just want to improve this country before I bring any children into it. Although I already have a feeling that our generation will be the worst off with this.

I still feel like I'm taking small steps though. I've even thought about producing anonymous leaflets with facts about supermarket foods and then posting them through people's doors! Just to bring awareness.

Nat, I decided to boycott major fast food chains 10 years ago and I haven't eaten a Maccie D's, Burger King or KFC since. If I ever fancied stodge then I would pop to Chicken George which is a family run business near to where I live.

But after reading up on supermarket chicken I can't bring myself to eat a chicken sandwich, take-away chicken or even chicken in restaurants anymore. I will only eat chicken if it's organic and from a butchers.

It's small steps to me.
Ohh yummy nat 55 % chicken, lots of water and hydrogenated vegetable fat....mmmmmmmm....loving it.

Actually I think MCDonalds has dramatically improved since fast food nation. I think some of their business practices are well dubious still but they are a major employer and even an idiot can succeed well with them. I do think they need to scrap the hydrogenated oil off their ingredient list though.
Im sure they could monopolise the olive oil market easily lol at least we would be healthier for it.
Champagne, enough people are doing it now that supermarkets are taking note. Looka thow organic produce is available everywhere. This will become the norm again one day.
Read 'Not On The Label' by Felicity Lawrence, Goodsy and you will even question organic chickens from supermarkets.

Only last month it was discovered that Tesco are using their lower quality chicken in their Finest dishes and then stating on the pack that it is free range.
well like I said, Im a butchers girl anyway. only one greengrocers in town though, so thats a bit cack.
imnnot sure but i suspect the animals that the cosmetics etc are tested on are bred soecially.theyre fed well i assume and looked after.so they test womens cosmetics on them i presume the alternative is to test them on women volunteers.are there any women who would volunteer to be tested on to save the wee cuddly bunnies?or anyone want to take the place of the beagles who smoke about 40 fags a day in the lab?
should we just let them free into the world and round up some women and experiment on them?after all it the women who desire the makeup, notice i didnt say need it.
the little animals suffer for womens vanity.

shame on you heartless girlies ..........
That's hardly a valid argument, Peg Leg, when we already know that there are plenty of cosmetic/pharmaceutical companies that do not test on animals and already test on people. Stop stating the bloomin' obvious!
well champers why do evil vain women still use the ones tested on animals???

state the obvious to that then oh oracle of knowledge ???
Ignorance.
while we are bleating about animals what abotu the poor kids in china or asia making shoes for women for tuppence a day.

or dont we feel guilty about that?

in fact where do we stop where indeed?
champers are you saying the majority of women are ignorant????

now thats a bit contentious lol
Leg the alternatives to animal tsting for cosmetics, involve eyetex, a synthetic cornea that reacts the same way, corneas from eye banks that are no longer suitable for transplant. Computer testing. Volunteers from humans when the products are already together in a similar formula in an alternative product. Skintex, synthetic skin which can react to 5000 different chemicals. Epipack, human cloned skin. Ames test is enzyme based testing.
Rabbits are almost solely used for the eyetest and it is incredibly unreliable. A human eye is not the same.

With shampoos and the like, they feed the animal up to 50% of its weight with that product to see how much will kill it. They have to do this to 50 animals to see at which dose over half the animals dye. This is utterly unreliable, just look at medicine, morphine relaxes us but excites cats, aspirin poisons cats and penicillin kills a lot of animals.

I dont eat much mcds because its just cr@p, and I feel bad afterwards. And yes they could put pictures of tortured animals next to products but they could also put pics of little piggies having their throats cut next to the bacon in tesco. lol

and legend why just women??? Read the other answers and it is clearly stated men wear cosmetics too. and use shampoo. Do you use Shampoo or are you a bit scritty? lol Some men may even wear more makeup than women do. lol

Oh and I've given up on stars to anyone that I've given them too already
so human volunteers would do it??
great anyone wanna volunteer?or volunteer their kids to save a bunny?

given the choice your kid or a rabbit what would you say??

i gueess its no luck bugs bunny eh?

And I dont think its a case of using ones that are tested on animals on purpose. Its a case that the majority of the things we use happen to be.
Question Author
nope I wouldnt volunteer but make-up does not need to be tested on animals as not all of it is. Some drugs for medical reasons do. But still I would not stop using something just because it was tested on an animal.
