So "going to work on an egg" is not now considered to represent a varied diet.

It sounds as repetitive as "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".

Is that now out too?

Ridiculous isn't it !!!....i don't have an egg every day as i prefer cereal in the morning during the week but i sure as damn make up for it at the weekend with scrambled egg (using 3 eggs) on toast on saturday and sunday mornings !!!
There's nothing wrong with an egg a day if you're a healthy person with no cholestrol problems. Even though eggs contain 'bad' cholestrol by eating foods with 'good' cholestrol (olive oil, rapeseed oil, oily fish etc) you balance it out.
