Hi scoobydooby, I think a lot of emphasis is placed on tidiness as cleanliness, but they are 2 very different things, aren't they!
Of course, there are some people who really can't motivate themselves to keep their environment clean and habitable, but I can't understand people who just don't bother. People csn't say they don't have time, for example, as I know people who have families and full-time work, and they manage well enough.
I probably clean the house thoroughly once a week, kitchen more often, as the man isn't very tidy! He works full-time, whereas I work part-time and am a student too so don't mind doing the bulk of the chores. Sometimes I just can't be bothered, but I never let it slip to the point where the carpet is squelchy and the dust covers everything! On my last placement, I saw some pretty filthy houses, not just messy but really dirty. I couldn't "choose" to live like that: my immune system couldn't cope!
