Hi, I wasn't sure where to put this question so I thought I'd just put it here. I'm looking for some original, cheap and lovely favours for my wedding. I don't want to be too traditional so that's sugared almonds etc out. I'd like something useful, and of course, cheap. Any ideas at all would be very gratefully received. Thanks! H x x
depending on how old you are sweets from the 80's, strawberrys and creams, rhubarb and custard, purple violets. people are more likely to eat these than sugared almonds
That's a really cool idea! I like the idea of some retro sweets or something like that. the last one I went to had bags of dried lavender. Not very useful or fun really.... Hmm.... sweets. Good idea! Thanks!
my best friend made her favours using lovely net and ribbon. In the mens she put a miniature of whiskey and if the ladies she put a nice (wrapped) bath bomb from Lush.
For the youngsters in the group she put in sweets, my sone had little milkyway stars in a clear bag.
Another friend made little cream boxes herself and put some hershey kisses chocolates in them
and I also know of a lady whos family had been struck by cancer and it was s thing very close to her heart, she bought the pin badges for all the guests, testicular cancer for the men and breast cancer pins for the women. Her money was tight but she ensured that it went to a good cause.
A wedding I went to recently had goodie bags like you would see at a childrens party. Inside was a little toy (like a kinder egg toy) a funny shaped balloon, a selection of chewy sweets and some love hearts. All very nice, my daughter loved the balloon and I enjoyed the chewy sweets, but I would have preferred a whiskey or Jack Daniels miniature!
the bathbombs are a great idea too. we haven't got any children coming to the wedding so really it's just males and females to consider.
was also thinking about a plant of somesort so that people can plant them. could put ribbons round them etc..but would people plant them? or forget them? x
at the weddings ive been to the plant would have been impractical as the tables were cleared after dinner as there was no room to leave anything around so the favours went into handbags. Plants may get damaged.
I would avoid anything too cumbersome. Traditionally favours were meant to be kept and treasured, but nowadays tend to be things that people can either use at the meal (sweets, drinks, etc). If you went for something like plants or seeds, people might just see them as a bit.pointless and you would find many just left on the tables at the end.
All very well being original, but a lot of people like familiarity as well as uniqueness.
You can get some great mesh bags on e-bay to put sweets in and then you could go to hobbie craft of somewhere to get ties for the bags with butterflies on - I would also get big bowls in the middle of the tables and fill with smarties or like instead of table flowers alot cheaper :-) hope that helps.
