To prevent harm to themselves and others.
Thats it in a nutshell really. But additionally one would hope that they are there to receive appropriate help and treatment.
To stop the ******* nutters from getting out!
An old friend of mine went in for drug rehab
my auntie years ago had to go into a secured ward, she was very depressed and tried to kill herself by taking an overdose, thankgod shes fine now
I know a lady that has been admitted recently, probably due to a nervous breakdown but they haven't given her that label yet, also borderline schizophrenic. Such a lovely lady as well!!
My ex-son in law is a manic depressive and also suffers from schizophrenia. He was sectioned as he had become a danger not only to himself, but also to my daughter and my grand children. It is so sad when this happens! My daughter and the children have been through hell and back. Secure units are absolutely essential in cases like this - to protect and treat the patient as well as to protect the family and allow them to find a way to rebuild their often shattered lives. I hope your friend gets the help he / she needs and wish them well.
