I hope that somebody is able to give me some advice about what I do next. It's a really personal problem but fairly common I think.

My ex-boyfriend told me that I have piles. I was really embarrassed when he told me and knew nothing about it so I looked it up on Wkipedia. I will go to see my doctor about it but I just wondered if its something I can treat at home or whether I have to go to hospital to have it fixed? Is anyone able to tell me more about it and how easy it is to get rid of? I'm just really embarrassed by it and don't want to admit it to my friends or family until I'm reassured that i'm not a freak or anything!

Any advice would be great. Thanks. xx

if you werent aware that you had them then they cant be bad. Try an over the counter cream from the chemist first.
You can buy stuff over the counter to treat them: http://www.preparationh.co.uk/

If they get really bad you can have them removed. It does actually tell you this on wikipedia, it describes all the various methods of removal.
p.s you are not a freak, lots of people get them!
Its just swollen blood cells, loads and loads of people have them and despite being uncomfortable it is not an embarrassing ailment at all. Pop along to the doctors for all the advice you need. In the meantime, this may be more helpful than Wikipedia:

Hi
Nothing to worry about Sonic Bird! They will only need surgery if severe. All they are are swollen blood vessels, usually due to pressure - so if the cause is removed (eg constipation, pregnancy) then the piles should resolve in time. You can get haemarrhoid treatment from local pharmacist I believe but, yes, go and see your GP and please don't worry, he's seen it all before (and much much worse!!!). To ease the discomfort, I found a bag of frozen peas worked wonders!! Good luck xx
if your boyfriend knows about them before you do, they can't be that serious (yet). It's just a minor ailment, nothing to be ashamed about. Get some cream and try self-medicating first; if that doesn't work, your GP can help
I hope he wasn't being a crafty butcher...
Anulsol is good, you can get it in ointment or cream form.
Get it from Lloyds pharmacy, Superdrug, boots etc.....
LMAO at reverandfunk - really tickled me.

Anhy how try creams as others have said...

Thanks very much everyone. This has really helped. It's just not something that people openly talk about which is why I was a bit embarrassed.

Plus my ex decided to tell me in front of 2 of his mates while we were at the pub! I died a million deaths when he announced it like that.

I'm going to get myself something over the counter and go from there.

xx
i can see why he's an ex!
rev!!! :-) and the little sh1t sonic I hope you had a good come back to it
I know this does not answer your question, but just wanted to tell you our neighbour is a farmer called Giles,

Poor old Farmer Giles is called "Haemorrhoids" it really annoys him when asked if he has had a good harvest this year. !!!!! Sorry Sonic, sally xx

No I didn't have a comeback to it. I was too stunned that he could be that tactless! It was right at the end of our relationship and it was the icing on the cake for me.
This won't help you phyically but might lighten your spirits:

What happened to the Eskimo when he sat on the ice for too long?

He got polaroids!
Are you sure you have them and it wasn't just your ex being a git?
Christ, I get loads of roughage (a shortfall of which can cause piles) and consider myself fit and healthy and even I have had the odd pile over the years.

As said don't bother your GP unless they bleed or need popping back in. Just buy any of the creams mentioned, don't strain your ploppedy plops or sit on the loo for too long and eat a bit more fibre so you dooberries will slide out easier.

Sorry for the images, but that's life.
Does he wear glasses when he's down there then?
...you should have said " yes, I have piles of good taste ...thats why your my ex" or something like that.... lots of models etc buy pile cream to tighten up the bags under their eyes...instant face lift apparently, so don't be embarassed abobuing it....
I agree with pippa, surely you would have know if you had piles. Your ex sounds a real plonker. Next time you see those mates, tell them he has a tiny d**k and is useless in bed.
