reading the post by sleepy about my new girlfriend and my old girlfriend made me think.
did you find it funny to see those women.
obviously very overweight ?

very worrying on the sky news there that 1 in every 150 teenage girls in the u.k. are suffering from some sort of eating disorder .
i think society puts too much pressure on them nowadays to be PERFECT and its really quite sad : - (

I dont think its funny, for exactly the reason you have pointed out.
Im at high school just now and I know quite alot of girls in my year have eating disorders, one of them is my best friend.

The boys in our school make a mockery out of the larger girls but when my friend walked into class last week one of them shouted "skeletor".
Thers is so much pressure on young girls to look "perfect" I mean Iam perfectly healthy but I worry about my weight all of the time as I feel the pressure to be thin. I would like to say I would never have an eating disored because you just cant say that.
My friend was the most rational person of the whole year group, the one person you think nothing like that would happen to, but the illness just doesnt work that way.
Shes a completely diferent person, most of the time I shudder at the sight of her, I know its terrible but its a natural reaction to how she looks.
Britain is breeding a nation of mentally ill youths, and it seems to be getting quite out of hand.
1 in 150 suffer from an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia no doubt. How many out of 150 teenagers are fat? A third apparently.

People need to stop pussyfooting around being fat... its generally not healthy and its not a sign of taking care of yourself. I have not heard of a medical condition that stops people losing weight, I have heard of them that make it easier to put it on but a few cakes do help along the way.
But what is PERFECT?....
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I doubt that, a third of them may be "fat" but not obese.
I dont see why people who are overwight should be seen as not looking after themselves, I mean obviously those who are morbidly obese and causing seriouse damage to themselves yes, but people who are a little overwight or "fat" are probably more mentally healthy than anyone who see's being fat as a sign of not taking care of themselves.
The thing is that fat isnt even fat anymore, people who are as little as a size 10 (womens size) are considered fat by some.
Everyone has their own boundaries of whats acceptable for their weight and whats not, it should be up to them and not for anyone else to give them a lecture about.

i had a thread about this a few weeks ago .
size 14 to me is fine , in fact pretty nice .
but others said 14 was obese or chubby or fat.
opinions vary.
but folk dont realise the hurt they can cause.
I think a size 14 is fine aswell.
I can't believe people called it all of those things !!
Iam a size 14 in jeans most of the time and a size 10 in top, most people I know say I'm thin!

My friend is slightly overwight but she has PCO so that doesnt help but we were standing at a bus stop one day when a lady started to talk to us, telling my friend that she would be dead by the time she was thirty if she didnt lose some weight!
My friend is a size 16 and by no means that much over weight for this to be true, even so, for a stranger to say things like that to someone.
Some people are just so arrogant
just had a look at it, 40 percent are either overweight or obese. 17 percent are obese or morbidly obese. If a teenager is obese they are likely to stay that way. They have health implications. I know a boy in my year at school who was really fat then and he had a heart attack at 24. Fortunately he realised he was doing no good and is now running marathons.

No one normal thinks a size ten is fat. Although a size ten is bigger than it used to be.

Anorexia is a misuse of food to solve emotional problems. Most of the patients will already be demonstrating a borderline personality disorder and more than likely wont be fat or obese already. so someone telling a size 22 teenager that they need to lose weight because its UNHEALTHY! wont be plunging them into anorexia.

Big can be very beautiful but surely if you cant run up the stairs you need to start caring about your health.
I agree with most that you said there, and Im not saying this for arguements sake but just to point out how teenagers at my school think these days.
The superficial girls of my year think that a size 10 is fat.
They are in the minority these girls but I think its terrible that they can think this way, and think that anyone over a particuar size is not worth even acknowledging.
I have two daughters, one aged 18 is a healthy and fit size 14 and as she is almost 5'8" it suits her(she's actually preggers at the mo so obviously bigger than a 14 right now) My 20 year old daughter has a personality disorder and has suffered from bulimia and anorexia in the past. Obese people are generally eating too much of the wrong foods and not exercising enough and they need to stop denying that.
Size 14 is definitely not fat but neither is it thin.

goody
my point .
the video aside .
was about figures published in sunday papers saying 1 in every 150 teenage girls has an eating disorder.
size apart thats not counting people obese overweight etc

it seems most folk with eating disorders are underweight.
its psychological.

lets not go too far off into the size issue .

Well its all about control really isn't it.
Well sometimes it is, my friend is extremely hard working and quite bright and started being ill with annorexia around the time of prepearing for the exams.
She hates not being in control, she felt like she couldn't control or slow down anything to do with exams and she felt like what she ate was the only thing left that she had control over.
its difficult baby, I know. I felt chubby at secondary school, with a 25 inch waist (oh what I wouldnt give to get that back) and I look back on it and think I was insane, I was taller and way more developed than anyone else but I could just see the size. As you said though, its the superficial girls that think that. School kids are horrible in there little packs, if its not fat, its your hair, if its not that its your spots, bag, shoes, etc etc

If anorexics werent fretting about their weight their would be some other personailty disorder crying out. I went to dance classes as a teenager and lots of the girls there were anorexic. Even one of the teachers who was 19 was. She used to chew on sugar free gum all day, eat half an apple and drink one can of "one cal". She kind of got over it but now she cant eat food that has been squashed and she eats the same thing, at the same time on each day of the week. She is fastidious about her clothes and hair and has a tonneof other "quirky"traits. This all happened in the 90s when we had the heroin chic look to aspire to. I believe in the 60s and 70s girls were waify too. I dont think its changed, especially as clothing has got bigger now. Growing up is tough.
Leg, how is being obese not an eating disorder? How can those women in the videos not have eating disorders? Thats not eating 2000 calories a day!!!

sadly what ur saying about school rings true.
the guys like the size 10 girls.
they become most popular . they then exert peer pressure on bigger girls,if u like.
by the time girls leave school as women theyre alreadyt thinking down the size 10 is perfect road.
then they grow older with that idea in their heads.

its a bit of a leap of faith to say if you didnt have an eating disorder theyd have a personality disorder.

Yeah I mean you really just have to blank out what all these girls think so that it doesnt have an effect on you, (nice to know that other people felt it! )

Yeah I know what you mean about the personality disorders and quirky traits.
My friend has already developed a few of those, some are quite scary and others slightly amusing but you just have to go with it, if I spend too long trying to work out whats goin on in her head I just get bogged down with pointless theories the only thing I can be sure of is that she needs me to be there for her, so I am.
Im not trying to patronise you Leg, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa

check out the diagnosis and clinical features section.I dont think guys wandering saying ooh shes too thin and I prefer a bit of meat on her bones would do any anorexic any good. In fact I think it would be just as damaging to them.

in all honesty wikidpedia isnt the best source of reference material ?
http://eatingdisorders.about.com/od/cooccurrin gdisorders/a/edspersonality.htm

will this do then,. I have hundreds more if you require them.

Maybe you ar right. Lets get a hundred fat girls in a room and call then fat and see how many turn out anorexic or how many turn out fatter as they have eaten more to comfort themselves.
