I was wathing the two towers (lord of the rings) last night and when on the background score it started playing this orchestral music with a choir...i was actually quite frightened because not only did it send a shiver through my entire body ( not just down my spine) but it made my breathing weird...and my entire body convulse!!! it was very odd.......FUN but odd

could anyone give me an explanation as to why that sort of stuff happens?

Hi light..

I cant answer that really... but I know the sensation...

I recently heard someone sing the opera song ( and I am not into opera at all) "Time to say goodbye" and it blew me away.... goosebumps, shivers.. the works...

You are potentially on the brink of Mozart, Brahms, and so much else toe-curling spine-chilling choral music. Your spine chiils because you feel good, and there is for a short moment a glimpse and a hope of what life might be like.
Good answer whiffey - I couldn't have put it better myself
it is happening to me this week, this is the tune that is being played at the funeral this friday of my grandson'e godfather, the lad would sit in my house and listen to Johnny cash for hours.

If music be the food of life ...play on ..
Although I have a fairly broad range of musical tastes (Rap and jungle music the exception) I can tell you that I have experienced only five occassions in my life which sent shivers, as you describe, over me. The experiences, without being melodramatic, were like my JFK assasination or Moon Landing. That is, I can tell you when and where I was when the four episodes occurred.

The items were

1) "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" (David Bowie CD)

2) Elvis 1968 TV Comeback Special.

3) "Stone Roses" (Stone Roses CD)

4) "Suede" (Suede CD).

5) "Sunflower" (Beach Boys CD)

I would not be as pretensious to say that the aforementioned symphonies changed my life in any way, and many albums and videos have blown my mind. But these blew my entire body.

It is moments like this that I really can not understand why some people can just ignore music and have about 6 CD's in their collection. Without being sexist, this does seem to be the fairer sex. And yes, I know that many females on here have ample collections and knowledge about music. But it must be said that many "get by" on a Phil Collins LP and "The Kids From Fame" soundtrack believing them to be the be all and end of of musical creativity.

I shall now add the lyrics to a favourite song of mine that sums up the situation nicely.

Add Some Music (The Beach Boys "Sunflower")

The sunday mornin' gospel goes good with the soul
There's blues, folk, and country, and rock like a rollin' stone
The world could come together as one
If everybody under the sun
Add some music to your day
(Add some music add some add some music to your day)
A bob didit a bop didit

You'll hear it while you're walkin' by a neighbor's home
You'll hear it faintly in the distance when you're on the phone
You're sittin' in a dentist's chair
And they've got music for you there
To add some music
(Add some music add some add some music to your)
To your day
A bob didit a bop didit

Add some music music everywhere (add some music)
Add some add some add some add some music (add some music)
Your doctor knows it keeps you calm
Your preacher adds it to his psalms
So add some music
(Add some music add some add some music to your)
To your day

Music
(Add some music add some music)
When you're alone
(Add some music add some music)
Is like a companion
(Add some music add some music)
For your lonely soul
Oo oo oo woo oo woo oo oo oo oooo

When day is over (when day is over)
I close my tired eyes (I close my tired)
Music is in my soul

At a movie you can feel it touching your heart
And on every day of the summertime
You'll hear children chasing ice cream carts
They'll play it on your wedding day
There must be 'bout a million ways
To add some music
(Add some music add some add some music to your)
To your day

Add some music to your day
Add some music to your day
Add some music to your day
Add some music to your day
Add some music to your day
i remember coming home form bingo with agnes having won 37 pounds and rick astley came on the radio, i looked at her and she looked at me...while the other eye looked at the furry dice, and it was a magical moment that rick created
Ahhhh, Top of THe Pops never showed VT when this song was in the hit parade, we had to suffer a black and white film of something or other, it's good to see it as it should have been

I get that feeling when i listen to vivaldi four seasons,
Beethovens piano sonatas and whenever Matt Bellamy plays classical piano/keyboard!! infact whenever i hear classical piano full stop i get that exact same feeling!!

Does this sound mad that i have always said that i could never go and watch Muse live cos if Matt did his full on stuff i would seriously faint?? Keep in mind that i do have a heart condition that makes me more suseptable to fainting!!
The opera Carmina Burana has that same effect on me. When I heard it live at a concert, I actually cried. Strange, but wonderful!
Was that ''never going to give you up'' bob

What a classic:}
Dotty, just how handsome was Dennis Wilson (the drummer, if you have forgotten)?
indeed it was lawrie :)
taliesin - I know what you mean about Matt Bellamy, when I listen to Space Dementia I kinda blank out in the first 30 seconds, and then realise what seems like only a few moments later that the song's over!
He was the kind of guy that got better looking as he grew his hair/beard and aged.
I would have thought it was ricks "cry for help" song...
then we stopped at harry ramsdens because we had a free fish supper coupon with us and we sat eating at each end of a fish till our mouths met all while brother beyond "the harder i try" was on the radio its great how music makes you feel so good
Your a bit of an old romantic on the quite bob.

i like to spoil them lawrie
