People either don't smoke at all (like me) or they smoke a lot. At least a few a day. You never see someone having just one cigarette at a special social event (a cigar, yes, but not a cigarette). Why is this? Is it because of ciggies' addictive nature.

because it tastes so gross you wouldn't want to and you'll cough up a lung if you're not used to it.

Thanks Tat, never thought of that. But you're right. A person has to keep smoking to get used to it.
Hello TW, up until I had the children (over 4 years ago), I could go to a party and have anything up to 5 cigarettes and then not smoke again for 6 months or longer (and I did inhale!). I found that the effects of smoking made me feel worse the next day than the gallons of gin & tonic I put away! As I said, since having the children, I haven't actually felt like smoking, but feel sure that if I did at a party, it wouldn't start an addiction.
i know of quite a few "social smokers".
I to know a social smoker - no it isn't me.
I am what is euphemistically called a 'social smoker' - someone who smokes only they they're p*ssed.
I think the reason people smoke more at social occasions is the same reason I cant give up smoking, if your a smoker, a pint and a cigarette go hand in hand, as soon as i got a pint in my hand i need a ciggy
