exercises to avoid DVT
2 Answers
well, while doing aerobics on thursday i dislocated my knee and am now ankle to thigh in lovely pink plaster. The nurse at the hospital told me to "keep mobile" but wasn't much more specific than that, In the pamplet she gave me, all it says is "do your exercises" but doesn't say what i should do. How often do i need to move around, does rotating my foot and wiggling my toes help at all?
I have a terror of getting DVT, my grandma died from a blood clot when she had disloctaed her knee.
any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

If you have a full cast in place I would think that particular leg will be restricted to wiggling your toes and , if your foot is free , circling your feet and ankles. Once you are up on crutches you will be able to excersise the other leg too. Nice deep breath excersises at intervals whilst you are immobile sat perhaps watching tv . All the best in your recovery :-) x
