pc learning in later years

How many of you on here didn't know anything about computers till your later years? When my children lived here they offered to pay phone line and broadband for a PC .I said "no computers coming into this house" and now look at me ,my daughter has to ask me how to do and find things sometimes.And may I add I learned an awful lot from the Technology section on here and other sections on this answerbank.

I was in my early 30's before I ever touched a computer(i'm 39 now),I remember being scared stiff that I was going to press the wrong button and destroy mine somehow.lol
I will happily mess around inside the PC now,I have fitted new hard drives,disk drives and RAM and have reformatted two computers.I also recently fixed our older second computer after what a techie told me was hard drive failure,he said I would need a new hard drive but I somehow got it working again myself.It isn't really that hard if you use common sense. My kids also come to me for computer advice now,a few years ago it was the other way round.

I used a word processor/computer at work when I was in my early 20's (Im 41 now) but never touched the computer part of it.

I was never interested in getting a pc when they became popular at home then someone gave us their old one about 10 years ago. I was so scared of it I wouldnt even turn it on unless someone else was around :blush: I dunno what I thought would happen, just was convinced something would lol

I decided to go to college to learn how to use it properly and passed 3 different courses. Now I wouldnt be without a pc, I use it so much that its as important as a washer or hoover to me lol

My father-in-law bought a computer when he was 70. To be fair he had used our PC and the PC at my sister-in-laws. He was really taken with the fact that he could play bridge on line, so took the plunge and has never looked back! In fact he's been selling a lot of books and stuff on e-bay. Go grey power!

All of us who are over 60 obviously didn't learn computing until our 'later years' - simply because they didnt' exist when we were in our earlier years.

Yes Ethel you are right but perhaps I should have put the question different and asked how many in their later years have taken up computers.

I have always loved anything to do with computers and have kept up with their progress , I admit I used to just use them for emails and for gaming but recent years have brought in online banking and shopping etc..
Since having my son though I have learnt so much more and using my computers programmes. Gosh , these days I even know whats inside that tower thing and how to upgrade and make up a new system if I needed to.- x

To Bigmamma yes 3 years ago I said to my daughter I don't know why you can risk putting your banking on here NOW GUESS WHO DOES IT LOL

Does anyone else have an elderly relative who looks at you as though you are speaking gibberish when you say you will check it on-line ? My stepfather is 83 and , bless him , I can tell he looks at my laptop as though it's magic :-)

hello, I am 64 years old and did not start computing until this year. I never realised just how brilliant this hobby is. My only complaint is that they steal so much time , I really should have got one years ago !!!!

Perhaps I should add that I have posted quite a few questions on answerbank re computing etc. and have found that people have been very helpful with replies and for that I am and will continue to be very grateful.

3 years ago when I decided to research the Family Tree I kept pestering Hubby with things I wanted him to look up for me as I refused to have a computer ,didnt see the need for one.Well he soon got fed up and set me up with my own computer and desk in the dining room far away from his little office.And now I am totally hooked on the pesky machine and all its information.I am 67 so a reasonably late starter.

Thank you for your replies now I know I am quite sane. lol I am hooked on dominoes and have met some nice people to talk to. You just have to be careful what you say.
