If you are tachycardic it means you have an abnormally fast heart beat. It can be associated with hardening of the arteries, heart failure, thyroid disease, chronic lung disease, pneumonia, pericarditis, certain drugs and social habits, cocaine abuse, alcohol abuse, smoking, and drinking too much caffeine in coffee, tea, or soft drinks. Tachycardia can also be a side effect of medications such as digitalis, asthma medications, or cold remedies. Sypmtoms include: * Rapid pulse (140-250 beats per minute) - The defining symptom of tachycardias * Palpitations - The sensation of your heart pounding in your chest * Dizziness or light-headedness (near-faint) * Shortness of breath * Anxiety * Chest pain or tightness * Pallor (occasionally) Tachycardia is generally NOT life-threatening unless you have other heart conditions
