Pretentious Name????

Would you consider the name Dante a cringe worthy pretentious Christian name for a new born boy?

I suppose it all depends on the environment he's going to grow up in.

If for example he ends up on a Chavvy council estate, then yes, there's a good bet he's going to get his head kicked in at school on a regular basis.

If he grows up with Henry's, Alexanders, Sebastians and suchlike he'll be fine.

People tend to grow in to their names I've noticed.

That said... he may well be in for some playground bullying as I suspect most 5 years will not have read Dante's Inferno.

I actually like the name though I doubt I would call my own child it.

Well I would say �dahn-tay�. But that was his nickname, his real name was Durante. I don�t think there is anything pretentious or �Christian� about the name, it�s origins are Latin (much like my username) and means �enduring�.

definately, what are the parents thinking, I took ages to come up with the names for my kids, sifting through every nuance of pi55 taking posibilty. He'll either become a right hard case or suicidal wreck.

Anyway the prize for stupid names has to go to young Shilo Pitt, has his dad never heard of spoonerisms?

Who says Don Tay????? I believe it to be Dan Tay and would only think it pretentious if people said Don Tay!

I like it, I know a few, they all have Italian parents but still its no different to calling your little girl Francesca.

Lol Boo, Sebastian, Alexander, Henry and Oliver were al toyed with for the three days it took us to name my youngest.
