It seems I use most partner most of the time, where i'm sure not so long ago I used boyfriend. I guess think ing about it now I think boyfriend sounds like a short term thing and since we've been together 5 yrs, live together and are buying a house together it sounds more appropriate, but it definitely feels like a term thats become more popular among people i know regardless of relationship length of late. What do you use? Am I imagining that its got more popular?
I know what you mean littleone. I've been with my bloke 5 years and we have a mortgage and everything and I sometimes don't know what to refer to him as either. Depending on what mood i'm in it could be a whole host of things!! :)
I agree with weeal, I sometimes use partner, but then I think people think I'm gay, boyfriend I think sounds too short term and childish after 19 years and 3 kids, so I go for my other half sometimes, or even my husband, but I'm not totally comfortable with any of them.
So its not just me then? Lol
i usually use his name with people that know him but partner for those that don't, on the flipside what do your partners call you? (to other people) lol
I have heard my partner refering to me as 'the missus' sometimes
Hi Littleone go with whatever you feel comfortable with, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
My partner probably calls me a nag :) but do i care ??? NO!!
I have the same problem with my daughter's man. Two children and quite a few years together, when I'm talking about him I never know whether to say "my daughter's partner/boyfriend" or what. I've started to say "my son-in-law" now even though strictly speaking he isn't.
