Im doing a school project on breast cancer and I really need to know who has died or survived it. If anyone knows please post i'll be so grateful! Thanks

Caron Keating has just died from Breast cancer and my best friend has it and is currently being treated which is a very trying time for us both. I had to do this kind of research also and googled it. I found a few "famous" people that have lived to tell the tale such as Caron (above) and Olivia Newton John (Sandy in Grease) and lots of others. Type into Google "Celebrity Breast Cancer" which I think I did and it will return a few good results for you. Good Luck x

My mum is 8 years clear of breast cancer this year. She had a full mastectomy and three months of chemo. She finally braved a reconstruction last year when she felt secure that she was disease free. A friend of hers is 2 years clear now, following a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. 2 of my aunts have also had breast cancer, but luckily I haven't lost anyone to it yet. We've caught it in time in each case so far. Although I'm not from here, the NHS has been quite helpful to me and done a genetic case history study for my family (as they do for anyone with several relatives with any type of cancer) to work out the probability of it being a hereditary cancer. I'm sure if you contacted either your local NHS trust or MacMillan nurses station, they's be more than happy to help.....after all, knowledge is power! If you don't know the symptoms, you'll never spot the disease. Best of luck with the project.x

My mum died from breast cancer 10 years ago. She had felt a lump in her breast and went to the doctor about 3 times who told her it was nothing. She finally pushed to be seen by a consultant who performed a biopsy and the result came back clear, unfortunately at the time we were unaware that this consultant had given a number of women false negative results. It was only discovered about 2 years ago down here in Devon and he was sacked. Far too late for my poor mum who sufferred on and on for months. It was only discovered that she did indeed have breast cancer when it had spread to her bones and lungs. I watched her literally disintegrate in front of me. I know she may still have died had it been diagnosed earlier, but her chances of fighting it would have been so much greater. I hope I haven't been the voice of doom to anyone who has a friend or family member suffering from breast cancer. The chances of recovery are so much greater today than they were then. I donate monthly to Cancer Research and they have been sending me very positive news about the developments in their treatment for cancer.

My Mum had one of her breasts removed about 8 years ago. She didn't have to have any radio or chemo therapy and has been clear ever since, although she still has regular checks. She has a prosthetic breast, which is an individually designed lump of 'rubber' which fits in the empty bra cup to balance her up. The funniest thing about this is that it comes with detachable nipples, depending on whether you want them to show or not! My Sister in Laws sister, also had breast cancer about 4 years ago,when she was just 30. She had keyhole surgery to remove the lump etc and loads of chemo after ( lost her hair and all that) and I think she had to have a bit of reconstructive surgery. She has been clear since and all her hair has grown back; so within my family, it is two successes so far.
