Does anyone else have really nice neighbours? After being locked out of my house today with my poorly 3 year old, (see thread on Chatterbank), my neighbour who I don't know well at all invited us in and made me a drink, offered lunch and entertained my daughter while I waited for a locksmith to arrive. It got me thinking how sweet and does anyone else have good neighbours?

I would do that for a neighbour, but doubt if any of mine would for me, sadly.
Its nice that you have a good caring neighbour.
I always thought Glaswegians were pretty friendly :o)
So did I lol
Its changed days now, it used to be a really friendly place. I was away for 17 years and now that Im back I want to leave again.
Honestly.
Where would you like to go....:o)
I'm hoping to go back up to Perthshire again (about 100 miles north-east). Waiting for job opportunity, then Im offski.
Lovely place, nice pace of life, even a much better climate believe it or not as its in a valley and pretty sheltered.
I have a sister living in Perthshire weeal. Its a village called Comrie.
comrie is nice, near Crieff which is also nice x
We have fantastic neighbours. My bloke goes on motorbike rallies with Mr Next Door, who also helps us out with bike repairs and parts whenever we need them. They've loaned us their car in the past and we've loaned them ours, and they've even loaned us money when we've been in a real mess.

It works two ways. We look after their house and pets when they're away, and they have the password to our wireless internet connection for whenever they need it - and no, they don't abuse it.

We didn't know each other at all until we moved in here. The blokes were drawn together through a mutual interest in bikes and it all sort of went from there, really. I think, even if we moved, we'd all still be friends.
my neighbour went on holiday this summer and told me to help myself to her veg and fruit garden while she was away - but then a document came for her one day and she wasn't home so i signed for it as the courier was taking it back, turned out to be very important and she had to have it that day - see true what they say, one good turn
You'd have to go far and wide to get better neighbours than us, and i'm not just talking next door, almost the whole neifgbourhood, stretching into the town.

They are all there for each other, it would take to long to explain properly, but just to give an example, at present, my wife is away, and i'm looking after our handicapped daughter, she's been away since last Tuesday, I've had umteen calls, ranging from offering to cook a meal, do the shopping, and offering to take us anywhere my daughter and I need to go, in fact, when my wife had to go to the hospital, (her mother), neighbours took her, as I was at work, (round trip of 50 miles). and one also came in to look after my daughter until I got home.

We wouldn't move away for the world.
Good neighbours are not to be taken for granted these days. We live in a block of 5 houses and we know we can turn to each other if needed. We have BBQ's in the summer, share birthdays. We're closest to our next door neighbours, more like friends as we had our kids at the same time and brought them up together. Many of the older ones have passed on with new ones taking their places. Nice but most of them are young working couples.
My neighbours arent bad, but luckily Ive needed them in a desperate situation........yet! We are always taking in and signing for parcels etc for each other though.

My old neighbours once left for work but didnt shut their front door properly. I didnt realise at first, just thought it strange after I had come back from town later in the morning to see it still open. I called in through the open door but got no answer. I left a note through the door explaining I had shut the door after noticing it open for a while. Never even got a thank you til I bumped into one of them as we was leaving our houses at the same time a few weeks later! I didnt want anything from them, just a knock on the door to say thanks wouldve been nice.

Im going to come and live next to you lot! lol
OOh very ignorant people Psychick. On our little block we have a spare key for each others homes just in case:-)
I don't have any near neighbours, but used to have. The woman was on her own, with two children and became a great friend - always offering to help, but asking nothing in return. She looked after my first baby if I had to go out - and even prepared a delicious meal on a couple of occasions, as a surprise. The best part about her, is that she's not nosey, and keeps her counsel, yet always seems to know what to say at the tight times. When I moved, we kept in touch, but she became depressed when she lost her part-time job and new partner. I could only think of how to help, so installed her in one of our cottages. She still helps out in all sorts of ways, but has almost become part of the family. Wonderful!
yes I am too very lucky, it's not my dream home but I'd rather have the neighbours than a posh house and to feel lonely and isolated. We live in a cul de sac with a green at the end and we often have b-b-q's and the oldest couple have every one in for a pre christmas dinner in early december and it's wonderful. We're not so close that you can't move without a twitch of curtains, but it's just so nice when you're out cutting the grass, washing the car etc that you get a hello and a wave or chat.
Well tonight out of the blue my neighbour from over the road knocked on my door asking would we like a pheasant which she had cooked in port & herbs as she had cooked 2 and it was too much for them and they weren't sure if it would go "funny" if not eaten tonight. So we had pheasant in a lovely rich sauce for tea. My 16 yearold had the nerve to ask what they had made us for pudding!
Sadly where I live we dont go beyond greeting "Hello" to each other but I very much enjoy the outside view because we have 2 opposite neighbours who like to completely strip their clothes off while the windows are open and the curtains remain undrawn. Very nice.
We have great neighbours - not nosey or in your face, but there if you need them. We give each other lifts if needed, take in parcels, put each others bins out when someone's on holiday, and 'lend' each other a cup of milk, an onion or an egg! The bloke next door on one side has just sold his house so hope the new people are as nice as he is. He has helped my son mend his bike and gave him a lift into work when my son was on work experience. We helped him take down three sheds in his garden and I have cooked for him a couple of times to say thank you. In fact, only last week he was popping into our nearest town (3 miles away) and asked if there was anything I needed from the shops.
