What is the difference between GBH and ABH?

There are many different ways of assessing the two.

1) The Police's way they deal

2) CPS guidelines

3) Medical guidelines

4) Court guidelines.

As a general rule of thumb

Common assault is just touching with no lasting injuries

ABH is non permeanent injuries and minor breaks of fingers and nose

GBH is lasting injury i.e serious breaks, scarring etc.

However, you can have psychological GBH with no visible injuries whatsoever.
