I didn't steal your name - it was accepted straight away, and so I think we could work something out. You stay with your original way of spelling, and I'll just keep the dot in it. Is that OK?
I think you need to research the possibilities of back surgery not helping. I think the statistics are something like 50% improve and 50% stay the same or GET WORSE. If you think you can handle this go for it. I personally have had back problems for 12 years and would not have an operation. If a nerve is trapped, a chiropractor or physio will do you more favours than an operation. If you have prolapsed discs pressing on the sciatic nerve, this WILL GO AWAY in time. The bulgy bit of disc pressing on the nerve eventually dries up and falls away, and is reabsorbed back into the body. You just need to manage the pain and be patient. Back exercises are very important, as most back problems are caused by weak backs in the first place. If you strengthen your back, you are less likely to hurt it again. If you don't, you will continually be plagued by one back problem or another.
Your local Doc should refer you to a pain clinic where they will offer you physio and a tens machine to try.

Ice.Maiden- Of course I don't mind you using this name. I don't know why you think I would mind. I would be a very sad person to let something like that worry me.
Scarlett- tell me, I understand that the purpose of discs in between your vertebraes is to absorb any shock and to allow nerves to have space to run through.
If, like me, I have no discs (two have completely gone) and my verterbraes are touching and are in fact crushing several nerves due to no space in between, how can this just go away? i am a little confused.
With regards to a Tens machine, this is for muscular pain not spinal. It will have no effect on me. Chiro's, been to three diferent ones in two years. No improvement.
Dustypuss- Thank you for sending me luck. Keep me updated about your progress please.

actually a tens machine is about enducing natural pain relief by getting your body to release endorphins and blocking the pain messages. When you first hurt a spot you rub it because this encourages non pain messages to travel up those nerve fibres. So a tens machine when put in the right place can help all chronic back pain. Placement of the pads is pretty important in achieving the most effective pain relief but even without the blocking part working the natural release of endorphins should give at least some relief.
Hi, Sorry to hear about your problems, but in my opinion surgery should be your last option after you have tried other things because once you have had the surgery, that it. Have you seen a chirapracter, have you tried spiritual healing. There is a psychic healer called ray brown who sometime can help people. he is on the web.
After the Op there are no other options.
