Tight chest, catching breath
21 Answers
Have had a tight chest for a few weeks now, not painful just a tight drafty feeling and keep catching my breath when talking and it makes me cough.
Doc put me on inhalers but they dont see to work. I have to go back tomorrow and more and likely go for a chest xray. I'm 34 years old and no other symptoms.
Any ideas?

At least you are going to the doctors. If you get any more breathlessness, get some help as quickly as you can. Is it difficult to exhale, ie is that what makes you cough? If this is all down to asthma, your airways can shut so quickly. My asthma came back with a vengeance last summer and I have been on and off steroids all year. I need atrovent to keep my airways open as well.
There are all sorts of things that cause these symptoms though. I had atupical pneumonia in my late teens and this took weeks to present with full symptoms.
the possibilities are endless. Sure you'll be fine though.

Its consistent during the day, but I sleep soundly at night. I have thought of a good way to describe it. (if your as unfit as me you will understand). When youve run in cold weather for a while, and it hits you in the chest and when you talk and breath for a short time after it it makes you cough, or is that just me?

Hi Teasy
I have had the exact same symptons for about 2 weeks now, i have 2 gasp for a breath but it only happens in places like on the train or bus! and where u said u get a cough after running in cold weather i used 2 get the exact same thing in cross country when i was at school. If the breathlessness carries on for another week i'm going to make an appointment at the docs as i think my asthma may have come back! good luck at the docs and let me know how u get on!! x
