Am quite surprised at a response I had earlier. And would just like to know if you needed blood would you refuse it if you knew it came from a homosexual?

nope, as long as it's the same blood goup as mine I wouldn't care about the sexual preference of who it came from
if i ever needed a blood transfusion i doubt very much id stop to ask who donated it tbh.
no problem if it keeps you alive why worry where it came from??
would you think the same if it came from a lesbian??
I was given a few pints of blood after major surgery a few years ago.
It would never have crossed my mind who it came from. It saved my life and I am thankful to the person who donated it.
Question Author
I dont think anything of the sort. I am curious to what people think. It wouldnt bother me and I wouldnt even stop to ask.
Question Author
And if I did mind lesbian would be different as I;m sure they are allowed to give blood whereas male hetrosexuals arent
I am a hetero blood donor with one partner, but every time I donate, my blood is tested for HIV, Hepatitis etc.

The blood service has arbitrarily ruled out what they perceive as high risk groups. Potential donors have to declare relatives who have contracted CJD .Drug users, including body builders who have used steroids and people who have previously received blood transfusions also cannot donate.

Would you want to receive a life saving transfusion, only to find that you now have hepatitis?
4get, did you mean homosexuals in last post?
mattie, if blood is tested every time you donate then why would it not be possible for the blood banks to accept blood donations from gay men?
Question Author
sorry yes, all these homos and hetros are confusing me. it would annoy me if I got hep but if that is the case why do they not ask on the form are you a hetro that has had unprotected one night stand in the last 6 months
Question Author
I give blood too mattie
It wouldn't bother me who the blood came from, as long as it wasn't contaminated & would keep me or my loved ones alive.

Being a blood donor myself, I'd be eternally grateful to who ever had taken the time to donate theirs.
I don;t know, but they do say not to turn up to a session if you think you need an hiv test.

My medical history doesn't change in the 16 weeks between donations, but I have to fill in the same questionnaire everytime, I even have to declare if I have had a paracetamol during the week before I am due to donate.

I suppose it would be a waste of time and resources if they ended up throwing away infected blood.

Also, apparently, only 6% of potential donors bother to donate, this would put the high risk groups firmly in the minority.
Question Author
Basically if they dont ask if you have had unprotected sex in last 6 months whats to say you cant catch anything and if each donation is tested then why cant homosexuals not give blood. Mine never changes either I wish the pin prick would feel a bit less painful though :-)
how do you know anyway if a gay man hasent come out you would never know so where do you start or stop???

Question Author
I agree it would probably be a waste of time. Maybe thats why but that is then wrong for them to be able to be an organ donor.
Question Author
Thats something I;ve always wondered too. I bet there are lots of homosexuals that donate but arent that truthful on questionnaire
cant donate myself as thay wount let me. if you,ve been tattooed within the last 12 months its a no go but always used to.
