id be inclined to say allergy if it was short term, but not sure about a week.

what does his throat and mouth look like? does thrush cause that sensation?
thats what i was thinking redcrx
Question Author
Found something called burning mouth syndrome. There is no rash and no lumps or discolouring where it could be cancer or thrush. It might be due to his broken tooth, he is going to go to dentist and then if it still hurts after that the docs
the dentist may also be able to help
Question Author
he goes for check ups for his cancer and his last blood tests were about 2 weeks ago and were fine, but not really sure what they check for so he was worrying himself.
well no-one can blame him for thinking the worst every time he has unusual symptoms,

maybe hes best to go to GP anyway just to put mind at rest.
Question Author
I looked up mouth cancer and usually a lump before any burning
It could be burning mouth syndrome as you've said or allergy or a localised infection.
A GP wouldn't be much help for conditions occuring in and around the mouth and would simply refer back to a dentist or to an oral and maxillofacial unit.
Obviously can't say for sure but typically oral cancer does not give rise to the symptoms you describe.
4get - Burning mouth syndrome is more common in ladies after the menopause. My mother has it. There is nothing really that can be done for BMS and they don't really know what causes it. Like you say there is nothing visible in the mouth, so it it probably a neurological thing.
Has this person changed their toothpaste lately?
Question Author
no he shares my toothpaste
BMS can be caused by depression and anxiety. It sounds as if he has had plenty to be anxious about. I would advise a doctor in the first instance (in view of his medical history). My mother was referred by her GP to an oral and maxillofacial specialist., who advised antidepressants, although he did say that BMS is still a mystery.

believe me he is the most laid back person you will ever meet even with going through cancer, it didnt really faze him. He has a broken tooth which I think is the cause
4get sweetie , I don't know anything about this so I can't help that way , just wanted to say I hope his dentist can shed light on what it is , and wish all the best for you both .
xxxxxx
You are probably right 4get. Has the broken tooth got an exposed filling by any chance? Some people are really allergic to the material used in fillings. He might be running his tongue continuously over the broken tooth and making his mouth sore and sensitive. Hope he sorts it out.

(Was at that famous castle and priory site last Thursday walking the dogs - and then down to the ford in the same village - the pub does good lunches and is quite a regular haunt of ours)
Question Author
Thanks Bigmamma xx. Loftie I dont think there is an exposed filling but he has tried pulling it out himself so it may be something to do with broken nerves. My guess last week was you were from there, so you just visited did you? So are you close to there?
