eye tests? Do you have a preferred optician you go to? I've got new frames and want to put my prescription in them but my opticians are charging me 85 and say I should get an eye test, don't know if it's reasonable or not.

It depends how long it is since you last had an eye test. If its within the last 12 months or so then no, I don't think you need a new one. And I don't think that 85 is unreasonable for new lenses.
Try Asda ...15 for an eye test ...their prices for
lens and frames are cheaper than the high street ..and the service is good ...

I go to D&A. I have tried other opticians and not been happy. I have really bad eyesight and have found other opticians (high street ones, I'm sure independent ones are better, but there are none where I live) just rush you and seem more interested in selling you things. I have found D&A to be very thorough and they don't mind how often you pop in to have new glasses adjusted etc.

When did you last have an eye test? I would probably have another one unless you have had one very recently. You don't want to buy glasses and then find that your prescription has changed!

85 seems reasonable to me.
I always used to go to my local opticians they charge 20/25 for a test, it never used to bother me cos I got vouchers from work but the last 3 times I have been I have had to pay it myself. Im due an eyetest now and I just booked at specsavers, round here it costs 5.
I have just paid 469 for new specs. The frames were 90 the rest was for the lenses. I pay this high price because I want ultra thin lenses if I didn't they would be like milk bottle bottoms.
well, you should be able to tell for yourself whether you need a new test; if you can see fine, why have one? (Opticians do check for eye ailments as well.)

Vision Express have all sorts of offers

The eye test is a lot more than just testing your vision.

The early signs of ill health of eyes, and the body in general can show up.
No they don't all charge the same for eye tests. I go to Optical Express and they have been offering free eye tests for years. They assume that you will buy glasses or lenses from them after the eye test but you are under no obligation to do so

I'm with D&A also. I phoned and the 85 covers the eye test. I got the 125 frames for nothing so it's all good. Thanks everyone. : )
I get my specs over the internet 26.
Being somewhat over 21 I don't pay for the eye test.
Get the cheapest then checkout "spex4less"
