Liver function tests
4 Answers
Have any of you ever been diagnosed as having elevated Liver Function? If so, were you told what was causing it?
My GP said mine was 528 a few weeks ago, then it came down to just over 300 and the other day my GP phoned to say it is still coming down, but she hasn't asked me to go back for more blood tests, I think the norm is between 45 and 65.
Her diagnosis was ' probably ' a gallstone stuck in the bile duct, even though I had my gallbladder removed years ago it seems this can happen, but I have not been in pain, the reason I went to see her is because my stomach is distended.
Would love to hear if high Liver Function can be the cause of something else.

Although this is different, I had blood tests and was found to be in stage 3 of Kidney Disease. I had no idea, as the blood test was for something else!
I wasn't doing anything wrong ie, taking loads of salt, drinking loads of alcohol etc, so failed to see what I could do to help myself. The only thing I did do was take about 15 herbal tablets a day, ranging from Oil of Evening Primrose to Kelp, Co Q 10, vitamin C, etc so I just stopped taking all of them.
I have since been for 2 more blood tests and my kidney function has gone from Level 3 to Level 2 and is getting better and better. (Level 1 is excellent - Level 5 which is kidney failure)
I don't feel any worse off for not taking all my homeopathic remedies but am sure saving money!

Thanks for your answers, very interesting especially Le Chat as I too don't use salt or drink alcohol but I do take 15 supplements a day, i.e Evening primrose Oil, Cod liver oil, Vit C etc but I also take Calcium-D Forte chewable tabs which are prescribed for prevention of bone thining.
I often think about the amount of money I spend on supplements and wonder if they really do make a difference.Perhaps I might stop taking them to see if I notice any difference.
Would still like to hear from anyone who has had high Liver Function due to gallstones.
