My husband suffers from gout and is not a big drinker and avoids 'trigger' foods as advised by GP. However over Easter he has rather indulged in chocolate and last night gout signals appeared and he can hardly walk today.
Am I jumping to wrong conclusion? or has anyone had similar experience?

Thanks

Yes it can hun ! As can alcohol and fizzy drinks ! Gout is subjective to a person, i.e. someone can eat all the chocolate etc in the world and not get it but unfortunately for your hubbie....................

ITS DARNED PAINFUL !

Cider is my trigger !

Hope your husband feels better soon.

Take Care.

I suffer as well - bacon and sausages do it for me - but chocolate is not a problem!

I get seriously brassed off becuse EVERYONE thinks it's really witty to tell me that it's drinking too much port - I am teetotal!

Your husband is not alone !! I spent a week finishing a large bar of "Toblerone" received as a gift at Christmas. The following two days I spent hobbling in pain- even though I take 24/7 gout meds and I never touch a drink.
Yes, I have had gout for 25 plus years and have taken medication for it, as well, all this time. Whenever I indulge in chocolate heavily, within a day I will experience gout symptoms, even with medication. I imparted this to my doctor yesterday when I was seeing him for another reason, and he did not believe me - claiming chocolate is not protein and only protein(as in meats) brings on the gout. However, I will assure you that it DOES affect me as well.
